Pre-race routine:

Drove out with teammates, picked up packet, setup T-area, then bore chilly winds on the beach waiting for the start.

Breakfast: single piece bread 1/2 PB and 1/2 Jelly, Luna splash juicy water
Event warmup:

None and in fact I felt warmest only once in the water for the deep water start. The water was warmer than the air!
Swim
  • 00m

Comments:

No swim - Waves 3-6+ were cancelled due to increasing winds and a capsized boat during Waves 1-2. Bummer.
Transition 1
  • 00m
Comments:

No T1 since No Swim
What would you do differently?:

Run faster! Not leave flip-flops at the swim "exit"

Comments:

Wow, this course demands near constant gear changes. Good thing my bike is working well! I felt confident and strong on the hills and descents, so I'm kinda surprised the overall speed was so slow. Makes me wonder if the bike time accounts for the beach run and false T1??? Maybe... that'd explain at least 3 minutes of slowness. *shrug*

Comments:

Really happy with my pace on these fast, hilly 3 miles. Good thing I couldn't feel my feet until mile 2!

Congrats on a great race Sunny!  It had to be very disappointing to not get the swim in, but its look like you took it pretty well.  I saw someone else complaining about them adding T1 into your bike time so I think you're right about that.  Best of luck in the rest of your season!

Sunny,

Sorry you were not able to swim. I would not be surprised if the modified start cost you 3 minutes. But, wow, what a great run! Awesome! You probably blew past me on the course at some point.

You asked how I improved my run time... I just ran more, that's all! :-) The difficulty was overcoming constant shin issues, so it took about a year to make the gains.
