Love the Chelanman - beautiful location and a great race.  I wish I could do it every weekend over the summer.

Unfortunately I will be overseas at race time this year but I'll definitely go back next year.

Good luck to everyone racing.

Signed up for the Oly and decided to make a family vacation out of this. I've never done this race but have vacationed in Chelan many, many times. Some of my local tri buddies are racing too so should be a really fun weekend.

swbkrun, I love the saying in your signature. It has taken on special meaning to me this year and are words I live by.

I got family just outside of Wenatchee and try to do the Oly every year. Hands down my favorite short course race. This race and couple of others in the NW is worth the trek up from Colorado. Unfortunately the timing is just off this year so it's Lake Stevens 70.3 and Tri Wenatchee for us.

I'm doing the Sprint this year - my first Chelanman race ever. I am so excited, but have a question. For those of you who have done it previously, what are the hills like on the bike course? I looked at the elevation map and they look pretty minor but I'm debating whether to take the road bike or tri-bike if its fairly flat. I checked race reports but there's not much mention of hills.

By the way, I'll be wearing a Team Density hot pink tri-top ; if you see me please say Hi!

Thanks!

If you're comfortable on the tri bike, I'd go with that and the deepest set of wheels you got. I ran a Zipp disc and a 1080 there last year. A couple of rollers but overall a quick course.

x2 on this one... It's a fast course and that time of year wind shouldn't be a factor....

BTW--- Does anyone recognize the guy on his bike on the top of the chelanman webpage? http://chelanman.com/index.php?page_id=297

Dave are you famous?  It sort of looks like you!

Just found out the Chelan man is full for all the Sunday events, and some of Saturdays. I'm on a waiting list with 200 other people. Apparently they can only have 800 athletes on the road per day, so I don't expect I'll get to join everyone. But I'll be there anyway, as I have reservations for the week. I'll have to remember to register early next time. Maybe I'll look into voluteering while I'm there.

See you all there.  Aside from Racing on Saturday I will be hanging out at the Endurance Sports NW tent most of Friday, Saturday afternoon, and Sunday.... Weather looks great!  Only issue's may be the wind?  And if they don't get the fire out in Swakine Valley.  Driving back from Chelan last night the smoke was brutal, but it was also blowing east, so it may not even come into play!

So I'm looking at the bike course on their website and while they say 24.8 miles the detailed map says 24.06 so is it a bit short? Also, they show 1,345 feet of climbing which seems like more than a few rollers for this distance. I guess I'll find out soon enough but is the 1,345 overstated?

Looks like its been a bit windy and the extended forecast calls for more of the same with 13mph out of the west with gusts to 26mph. Would that be a headwind out and tailwind coming back in?

That sounds like a lot of climbing... Most of the climbing comes AFTER the State Park.  I wouldn't be concerned about the "rolling hills" at all.  The are indeed rollers with the exception of maybe one or 2 moderate (length) hills.  On your way back it should be REALLY fast going from the State Park home.

If anything I would be concerned about the wind on the swim.  This can kick up some pretty good size whitecaps.  However it means a fast return back to the shore once you make the turn (just like the bike!)....

It'll be great fun!! AND WARM!

Also wanted to mention that the course as a lot of Chipseal.

More on the 1/2 Iron Course, but there definitely is some....

Good luck to everyone over there this weekend!  I wanted to go so bad, but had family conflicts.  However, I will be arriving for a vacation at Lake Chelan on Sunday the 18th until the 25th....and I'll have my bike....so if anyone is staying longer and wants to ride, please PM me and I'll get you my phone number!  I'll also be up for swimming and running.  It's a train-cation for me.

There's a few of my LUNA teammates doing the HIM and OLY, be sure to give them a shout out!!

What a great weekend! Chelanman is on my list for next year. The water was such a joy to swim in. Perfect temp, clear, clean, and the most beautiful rope under the water to sight off of. With the second half of the swim directly into the sun sighting would have been a nightmare without it. Was a bit choppy but manageable.

The bike was a bit tougher than I expected because of a headwind on the outbound leg but was indeed fast on the return. Very beautiful course winding along the lake and a pretty good surface.

Lots of very friendly people and great volunteers and event staff. Saw many old friends and made a few new ones. Smiles all around.

Steve I am glad you had a good race!  It is a great event, and I feel like it is only going to get bigger, and better..... I don't know if you stuck around for Sunday, but it seemed as though there were 10x as many people there Sunday!

Wow! Great race report! I flatted twice in the bike and then destroyed a quad in the run. Also got shot in the face by a volunteer with a hardcore supersoaker which let to a nose bleed in the run. I just kept laughing because despite my bad luck, it was still hands down the most fun race weekend I've ever had. I can't wait to go back next year.
