I use this stuff called "Cholesterol" (no joke).  I got it at Walgreens, it was in the "ethnic" aisle.  It has the consistency of thick hand lotion.  I put it on my hair under my swim cap, then wash it out afterward with a "deep cleaning" shampoo.  Altho if your hair is that dry normal shampoo might be better.

There's also a brand called Ultraswim that makes shampoo, conditioner, and (I think) bar soap.  I used to use it when I swam every day.  It's a little better at removing that crispy feeling than the regular stuff.

Yeah.  For your hair find some really heavy duty leave-in stuff, put it on and then your swim cap over it to help protect your hair.

For your skin, not for regular swimming, but for swim lesson teaching, when I taught we used to slather this product called Eucerin all over ourselves before getting in the pool.  It's a really heavy-duty lotion that's almost wax like.

At night, get some of that really good dry skin lotion and put it on before you go to bed.  It really does help.  Being in the water that long every day really affects your skin.

Lubriderm Oatmeal formula for skin (so nice I can use it on my face - I normally only use Aveda face products on my face).

Sexy Healthy Hair shampoo and conditioner works for me.

My stylist and one of the lifeguards at the pool have suggested wetting my hair before going in the pool. Seems to be working, along with using UltraSwim shampoo,

For your skin...do you put lotion on right after you rinse, while your skin is still wet? I read that in a magazine & have been trying that method out. Seems to work pretty well.

Hope you're able to de-Scarecrow-isize yourself!!!

OH, yeah, ditto!  I forgot that part, but it helps TREMENDOUSLY! Wet the hair, then the heavy duty leave in stuff (which is all that cholesterol is anyway I think), then the swim cap.  My hair is actually softer than before I got in the pool

I find it really helps to wet my hair and coat it with a silicone-based product before getting into the pool.  The best product I've found so far is Biosilk Silk Therapy.  It does a prett good job of coating the hair and keeping the chlorine from doing too much damage.  In addition to the Silk Therapy I use whatever heavy duty conditioner I have around.   Then after swimming rinse your hair out again really good as soon as you can and use a swimmers shampoo.  I don't know enough about the various brands to say if one is better than the other but I've used a few and they have all seemed to work well.

Ooops - as a p.s.  I wanted to mention that the Biosilk Silk Therapy is great for skin, too.   I put some on my face and hands before getting into the pool and it creates this coating that keeps my skin from drying out.   It has worked really well for me.  Hope this helps.

I went to a new dermatologist a few weeks ago for my annual freckle inventory/assessment (one of the hazards of being of Irish descent) and after examining me for all of 2 seconds he said "So you're a swimmer."  I replied "You obviously haven't seen me race."

I wasn't aware of what the chlorine was doing to my skin, but it was drying it out pretty bad. He recommended that I use either Eucarin (expensive) or Cetaphil (less expensive but not cheap). I went with the Cetaphil. Works fine.

I may now moisturize daily, but I am not shaving. Ain't gonna happen.

Courtney, I can sympathize... I pay good money to be a redhead and the chlorine doesn't help with that either!!! Ha ha.

I do the same as several of the above posters, wet hair and apply conditioner, then swim cap. I also keep huge CostCo bottles of Cetaphil at home and work for my skin, and use Aquaphor, which is a thick Vaseline-like stuff also made by Eucerin, on the REALLY dry spots on my hands. (That problem with my hands has been around longer than I've been swimming.) Good luck!

Ditto.  Back before I started shaving my head and even in high school when I had really long hair and was on swim team I used to use this stuff all the time.  Works great.
