The water has cooled down since the rain. Just swam; I could see my elbow. I hope/think that we can wear wet suits. The wind is very gusty now from the NE maybe 9 knots. I'm thinking that we'll have this tomorrow but who knows. So that means tail wind on the long leg on 31.  At least it won't rain. Looking forward to a fun day. The wife and kids are out of town so if anyone needs a hand taking their stuff back to their hotel I have a truck and could possibly lend a hand.

Hey All,
Nice to meet you, however briefly.
I spoke with the Official after the race meeting. He said that they will try to make the merging on the bike a little clearer, and maybe give the people coming down from the highway a little "right of way" as it were.
Looking forward to the race.
Post your numbers so we can try to catch up at the finish?
I am 92 and Becky is 228.

Was great meeting everyone, and finding out Skippy's real name

I am 579 and will be wearing a red tri suit and one black calf sleeve. That should make me easy to spot, lol!

Sorry I missed the meet up gang, my sister in law got called to babysit, so I lost my ride to the meeting. Good thing I checked in my bike right at 2, or id have had to ride it over and catch a cab back.

Everyone have a safe and fun time suffering tomorrow!

I was pretty devastated by no swim, even though I'm a mediocre swimmer.  I wanted a HIM PR badly -- that's been my focus for the past several months.

I turned it into a hard training day for B2B IM.

I ended up 4:04 and qualified.  Race report here.  I look forward to reading everyone's reports in the next few days.

Well that was an interesting day!!!  While I haven't been swimming it's still my strength so I was disappointed---that and I was looking forward to a clear bike course since I was in the first wave.........instead I started about 40mins in and most of the first lap was crowded---with some definite drafting---I haven't downloaded my power data yet BUT I KNOW it wasn't very even for the first 20miles---bunch of surges trying to get around the packs.

It was great to see everyone on Fri---sorry I missed everyone today (or just was too out of it to realize if I saw youEmbarassed).  Congrats to all those that qualified for world Champs---anyone going to go?

I was initially disappointed to tart so far back (near the end) but maybe it was a benefit.  I had to accelerate to get past groups only a few times -- mostly my effort was pretty steady -- so maybe starting near the back was a good thing.

I also enjoyed meeting people.

My first inclination was that I wouldn't go, but my Mom is making noises about helping out with the cost, so I might go after all.  How does it work -- do they contact us, or do we contact them?  I guess I should find out...

Congrats to everyone! I was dissappointed about lack of swim, but not as much as those athletes who had traveled across country to try and qualify.

Since I couldn't shoot for a PR, I decided to just go as hard as I could all day and see what happened. Sort of an experiment to see how good a run I can lay down with toasty legs. I did enjoy the bike course, despite the relentless wind, and I smoked it trying to keep up with all the fast people out there. I did alot less passing than usual!

The run was painful, and I don't think very well when I am in the pain cave. I screwed up and missed one loop of the run course, so only ran 10.87 miles. I have written to the race director to DQ myself. I found that double dog leg section very confusing and on the 2nd lap, when the volunteer said '2nd lap' I just went that way and followed the crowed, missing that 2 mile loop. There was really no good way for volunteers to properly direct people. This is the first race i've ever done where thinking about where to go during the run was required.

PS: was that little double dog leg section added after the fact? I confess I did not study the courses at all until the night before! My lesson here is 1) don't sign up for races that have sucky run course; and 2) make sure I ride the run course before hand to make sure I understand it.

Carol---That was a different run course---I had looked at the map and rode it on Friday morning BUT without the loop on the running path and around to the YMCA...the vols definitely had a hard time telling people where to go...

As for world's---I don't know if they'll contact you---at the pre-race meeting they said something about someone being at the finishline BUT I think that would have been if there was a swim/wave start---so the 1st 20 across in each age group get a slot but with that start NO IDEA!!!!

Skippy - thanks for the reply. That run course sucked, sour grapes aside. Kudos to anyone who did it correctly! I guess I have to learn lesson #3: how to think while in the pain cave. Any suggestions?

As for world's: at the meeting, they said that they will email the top 20 folks. If you don't get an email, by all means, be a squeaky wheel! Email sometimes goes into the bit bucket.

Last night I checked out the USAT site to see if it had anything about world's and they do have an article AND a pic gallery from the race---check out the pics---the overheard of transition is kinda cool!

Interesting Race..

I understand the difficulty with the swim.  I was slightly surprised that the organization did not have a better back-up plan.  Starting one person every 5 seconds was a bit silly.

The "loop within the loop" on the 2 Loop course was plain silly as well.

Good venue and swag and police assistance on the bike was great.

It was great to meet you guys!  I'm sorry I didn't manage to find anyone on Saturday.  I hope you all had a good trip home.

Carol - That run course WAS really skrewy!  I heard a lot of confusion in the crowd when I was running it.  I wonder how many people did the same thing you did.

Worlds does sound really cool!  I'll have to do some reading...

Carol,

I'm so glad to hear that someone else had trouble with the run. I somehow ended up doing multiple loops on the sprint course and was forced into the finish line after only 9 miles. I'm devastated because I traveled all the way from Colorado to qualify and the pace I was holding would have qualified me if I had been able to finish. I went to the pre-race meeting and thought I understood the course, but it was very confusing and the course marshals weren't very helpful. Perhaps they will make another race a qualifier for worlds since there were so many problems.  I'll cross my fingers!
