Pre-race routine:

Event warmup:

Some light jogging. Swim warmup in water.
Swim
  • 15m 34s
  • 440 yards
  • 03m 32s / 100 yards
Comments:

Not a good swim. I felt ok in the warmup and had done this race the last 2 years, so I felt I could do ok. I breathe on my right side, so I got pounded with waves on the way to the first buoy. Heard some swimmers start to yell for help about 30 yards from the buoy. I treaded water for a bit and then made it to the buoy and headed back in to the swim finish. I felt ok at that point, but really had wasted too much time by then. I was spent by the time I exited the water.
What would you do differently?:

I am disappointed with my swim time considering it is my 5th year doing these. But glad to finish considering the conditions,
Transition 1
  • 01m 48s
Bike
  • 36m 48s
  • 10 miles
  • 16.30 mile/hr
Comments:

I was tired coming off the swim, so it took me some time to get into a good pace. Kind of a grind it out ride for me. Course had its share of climbs.
What would you do differently?:

Not too much. Swim better so I am not as spent for the bike ride.
Transition 2
  • 01m 8s
Run
  • 24m 35s
  • 3.1 miles
  • 07m 56s  min/mile
Comments:

Usually my strongest event, but not really today. Just did the best I could after a tough swim and bike.
What would you do differently?:

Nothing really. I think the swim did me in, so I just ground out the bike and run.
Post race
Warm down:

walk around, get bike and head back to car - needed to get to a Mother's day brunch.

What limited your ability to perform faster:

Too much time and energy speny during the swim.

Event comments:

The swim really got me in this one. I was ready to pack it in coming out of the water. Never really had that feeling in any of my other triathlons. Oh well - nice to have one under my belt this spring and I can't imagine that the swim will be as tough in other events I do this summer.
