I won a lottery slot for Ironman kona 2010 and i am really nervous about being prepared for the bike route.  Is it as hard as everyone makes it out to be.

I will also be racing Kona and from what I here it really depends on the day. You can go to the World Championship web site and they have a profile of the bike and run course that show elevation. Elevation will not be the challenge. The big challenges will be heat and wind. Heat is probably a given but the wind can be calm or you could have gusts over 50mph.

I qualified at IMSG and everyone says if its not really windy the bike course at Kona is easier than at IMSG.

Train in the heat as much as possible and make sure you have your nutrition and hydration down.

It really depends on the day. The first time I went was brutal. I think only 10 people broke 5 hours on the bike...and just barely. The run was really hot too. The second time I went it was windy, but nothing out of control. Run I think is always hot out on the lava, but sometimes there's a good breeze by the ocean or even a rain shower to mix things up. I would suggest that you prepare mentally for the worst. Good Luck!! its an amazing day. Let me know if I can help.
