Overall Rank = /
Age Group = Over 40 clydes
Age Group Rank = 6/11
Pre-race routine:

Got up at 4:30 had two english muffins with marg and honey. Car was loaded from last night, put the bike on and drive the approx. hour to the event. Set up transition, hit the head and had an banana right before the race announcements
Event warmup:

Warmups would probably be a good idea...
Swim
  • 06m 46s
  • 328 yards
  • 02m 04s / 100 yards
Comments:

8 out of 23 clydes! I was really happy with the swim. My entry was a little off as a sunk too far in pool. There was a long break in between the two swimmers ahead of me. I passed the lady in front of me at about 30m. Had wide open water in front of me! Woo Hoo! Tried to keep focus on high left elbow and hand placement! Caught up to the next group of swimmers at 200m, passed three in two way traffic! Passed a couple of more in the final 50m. I had a good 50 yds to the transition mats, so my per 100 time was respectable for me. Best swim ever in a tri! Swim form coaching has helped already - let me give a shout out to Karen (KSH)! Coach Eric's focus on speed workouts has been great as well!
What would you do differently?:

More time in the pool working on stroke - I tried to concentrate, but I am sure I got sloppy over the last 100-150m or so. I can only get better from here!
Transition 1
  • 01m 34s
Comments:

2nd in master clydes - nice speedy transition! Several peope were at the rack when I got there and were still there when I left! Went sockless on the bike - that really speeds things up. I paid for it T2 later too :)
What would you do differently?:

Work on mounting on the run..
Bike
  • 43m 16s
  • 12.4 miles
  • 17.20 mile/hr
Comments:

17 out of 23 clydes. Started out strong. Forgot to set the garmin to the bicycle or multisport so no speed info during the ride, only HR and cadence. Tried to keep my HR up in the 160 range. Felt real good to the turnaround, thought I heard some rubbing but was breathing heavily so dismissed it. When I was putting my bike on the car, saw that my back wheel came out of true and was rubbing on the brake pad with ever revolution. Guess I had this problem for at least half the ride - I am blaming my miss of my goal time on that (3min miss) :) Overall, really pleased with bike ride considering the slight mechanical issue. Worked the plan just as Coach Eric and I discussed and got much better results...
What would you do differently?:

Not have wheel problem, continue to lose weight and increase power...
Transition 2
  • 01m 49s
Comments:

Took too long to get in to socks... Hopefully I will be running without socks in the future, but my heel is just almost healed from the blister at Lonestar so I didn't want to go off plan...
What would you do differently?:

Lose the socks....
Run
  • 34m 58s
  • 3.1 miles
  • 11m 17s  min/mile
Comments:

19/23 clydes. Uh, well, I did run... better than the other races so far this year. Calves felt really tight for the first mile - almost like they were going to cramp up. Pacing was off as well. Did some walk/ run until they loosened and then was able to run better. A twelve year old (the age was on his leg) passed me and gave me some encouragement :) Second mile as better, pacing still problematic, a little walk - worked on "embracing the suck". Third mile - was being stalked by the 11 year old girl... she passed me too.. tried to pick it up coming down the stretch, but there wasn't much left to pickup...
What would you do differently?:

Better pacing and better run fitness.
Post race
Warm down:

Try not to collapse - will take an easy spin on the bike later today...

What limited your ability to perform faster:

the usual

Event comments:

New venue was great. Will do this race again... Coaching has helped already!

WOOT!!! Great job!! LOVE your fishiness on the swim -- you rocked it!

You did awesome on the rest of the race too! Bummer about the rear wheel -- get that fixed!

LOL at those little punks catching you on the run. Love having ages on people's legs -- you can never let someone in your AG pass you on the run if you can help it. But 10-11 year-olds, that's OK.

Congratulations on having another fine race under your belt. Awesome job!!

Worry about blue hairs passing you and not 9-11 yr olds.  Most of them run 6-7min miles.  Don't feel bad.

Awesome job out there today.  Congrats.  You deserve the nap.

Great job Andy! You definitely rocked the swim....and your bike was speedy even though your brakes were rubbing! Finally, if it makes you feel any better - you are faster than me on the run.

Nice, solid race!
