East Carolina Road Race
90F / 32C
Sunny
Total Time = 1h 24m 57s
Overall Rank = 16/121
Age Group = 40-44
Age Group Rank = 4/17
Pre-race routine:

We spent the weekend at a friends house. Got up at 5:45, coffee, couple of waffles with peanut butter, left the house at 6:15.
Event warmup:

Walk the bike from the parking lot to the transition area
Swim
  • 17m 25s
  • 875 yards
  • 01m 59s / 100 yards
Comments:

Very easy swim course
What would you do differently?:

I really need to refocus on stroke work. I am comfortable enough in the open water now, to where sighting works and I was able to focus on getting the most out of each stroke.
Transition 1
  • 00m
Comments:

There were no split times for T1 or T2. The bike reflects T1+ bike + T2. According to my watch 1:48 in T1. Again trouble getting the wetsuit off the ankles.
Bike
  • 43m 32s
  • 15 miles
  • 20.67 mile/hr
Comments:

According to my watch I was right at 40 min when I dismounted, which put the average speed at 22.5 mph. I am starting to get the hang on the bike shoes. The pedaling felt nice and even on the straights, with an equal amount of power coming from the downward and the upward motion.
Transition 2
  • 00m
Comments:

T2 is part of the bike split. Again trouble getting into my running shoes. I easily lost 30 seconds or more.
Run
  • 24m 1s
  • 3.11 miles
  • 07m 43s  min/mile
Comments:

Very good run, esp. given my size (225lbs at 6'4'') and the heat. No problem running of the bike. I think swimming is starting to be my weakest discipline.
Post race
Warm down:

Walk around. Waited at the finish line with our kids to see my wife and a buddy of mine finish.

Event comments:

Very nice, smaller race ( ~120 racers) in a beautiful setting
