Subject: What's the Longest You've Ever Walked After Geting a Flat?
So, went out for a ride early this morning.  My son is sick, so I was taking the morning off and then switching with the wife at noon time.  But I figured I could get in an hour and a half ride before she had to leave for work.  Left the house a little before six and went about 20 mins pretty hard.  Then I got a flat... and didn't have a spare tube with me.

I did bring my cell, but I felt like a jerk calling my wife and asking her to pack up our sick son at 6:15 am to come pick me.  So I just decided to walk.  I took me just over an hour and after checking map my ride it turns out to be just over 5 miles.  Made it home two minutes before the wife had to leave for work.

I was kinda bummed that no one with a truck offered to stop and give me a lift, but whatever.

At least I got some sort of workout in, huh?  Walking a little under five miles an hour while pushing a bike w/ a flat is pretty good, right?

Had to walk just under 10 miles.  Not a lot of fun.

I started a 16 mile walk this weekend when another rider came by with a tube.  I flatted, got out my tube, found out the valve stem was too short (doh) and thought I was done for.

3-1/2 miles.  Naturally, it was the only time in the last five years that I didn't have my spare tubes and CO2 with me.  Had my cell with me, but nobody to call.

Proably about 50 feet, to get into the shade as I waited for my ride. I carry 1) spare tubes, and 2)a cell phone, and I'm not afraid to use them!

About 7 Miles.  Took up cycling again 2 years ago.  Went out with 1 spare tube, no patch kit.  Flatted twice.  It was an out-and-back route from my house.  Live in a rural area and cell coverage drops as soon as I leave my ridge line and drop into valley.  I always carry a tube and patch kit now.

1/2 mile once after my 3rd flat on the same ride. I was close enough to home that I walked. Otherwise I fix them or call for a ride. Gotta have the tools to fix your problems or call for help.

I was going to say the same thing. My first ride on my bike 3 years ago I flatted. Luckily, I was wearing running shoes and toe cages. I was going to try to patch, but realized, it was 2 flats.
So, I ran the 6 miles home. My first Brick...EVER.

You run with your bike?  That's just ridiculous.

Walked about 1/2 mile this weekend.  Flatted at the end of my 64-mile ride and decided that I was close enough to the house that I could walk it just as easily and repair the flat @ home.

6 miles. I had my kit, but the LBS gave me tubes with the stems too short for my rims.

this was about 3 or 4 years ago.  I flatted on my way out for just a 20-mile ride about 4-miles from my house.  I had a spare tube but pinched it while changing the flat.  Did not have my cell phone with me so I proceeded to walk home.  I walked maybe a half mile in my cycling shoes but with Look cleats that just does not work well for walking.  So i walked home in my socks and had some nasty blisters after!

2 miles...I had everything I needed but decided to walk instead of fix the flat.  Still cannot figure out why I made that decision.

2 miles.  The crank on my bike fell off at the beggining of the bike leg (lost the bolt).  This was my first triathlon (sprint).   I still did the run after notifying the race officials that I was DQ'ng myself.

The funny part is that I still showed up as 1st place in the website the next day.  After I emailed them they corrected that.

Not very far. Both times I've had to do the walk (once- two flat tires in one ride), (once-multiple flats and realized that my tire was toast) I was close to a bus stop, so I just walekd there. Otherwise I would have used my cell phone.

6 miles. I had been lazy about carrying any spares on the new bike and paid the price. I dont have a mobile and it wouldn't have done me much good as my husband was on his way to work (as should I have been pretty shortly after). I also learnt that bike shoes on wooden pedestrian bridges make for a precarious journey home....

I usually carry a few coins in case I need to hop on a bus home (depending where Im riding) but I recently discovered that this backup plan won't work because bikes arent allowed on the buses here

5 Miles.  I had just started my sunrise morning ride when I hit a brick, kinked my front rim, and double snake bit the tire.  All the air was gone before my wheel even got back to pavement.  I went down at about 27 mph downhill so the sliding and grinding of my skin lasted longer than previous attempts at looking like a rock skipping on water.  I came to rest about 25 feet away from a pedestrian that just stared at me while she walked by.  No "do you need a phone or ambulance?" or even an "are you okay?"

My hands were numb and bruised from slapping the pavement when I went down. My gloves tore out and went up my forearms allowing bits of gravel to "season" my palms by embedding themselves under the skin.  Finger tips were chewed up, bleeding and numb from the trauma and the cold.  My hip was bruised and bleeding and half of my was hanging out of my shorts.

Three bike commuters just whizzed by me while I was limping my way back home.  Home phone lines for the entire block were down so I couldn't call my wife.  My spare tube was useless with the rim the way it was and I couldn't change it with my fingers the way they were.  Needless to say, that 5 miles felt like 50.

One of the benefits of living in Shanghai is that no matter where you go, there's ALWAYS a taxi, and taxi's are super cheap - like less than $5 to go 10 miles or so. Also, there's always, always a little guy with a nasty dirty bike/scooter shop in every little neighborhood who will patch your tire for less than $.5o. I always feel guilty if I don't give him at least a buck or so. So, my answer is... never walk when you can take a taxi or hire a guy for $.50!

2.5 miles this morning.  I had my fourth flat in two weeks, and I wanted the LBS to see the tube so I walked it back in my socks.  Waking up my family for a ride home would have cost a lot of "relationship capital."

My record is 5.2 miles on my old bike -- one of the spokes on the back tire broke and the rim warped and started rubbing against the brake pad.  I was wearing tennis shoes + cages, so I just walked the thing home.

I'm not proud, though -- I have called for a ride home on a couple of occasions.

12.5 Miles, not walking but refilling my slowly leaking tube every 0.5 mile.  I had been having flat issues all week (eventually discovered it was because I had a hole in the interior of the rim) and wanted to bring two spares with me, but only had one left.  Flatted once when I ran over some unidentified metal in the road, and about a mile later flatted again, probably due to the rim.  I attempted to use the patch kit, but was only able to get a so-so seal with the patch In lieu of walking I decided to just stop and repump every half mile or so.

Like everyone else, despite the fact that I stopped to refill my tire upwards of 30 times, nobody stopped and offered help of any kind.
