Overall Rank = 147/333
Age Group = 35-39
Age Group Rank = 10/37
Pre-race routine:

I didn't have to be there until 8am, so woke up early double, then triple checked that I had everything packed - had breakfast & then headed out!
Event warmup:

As the event was so close to my place, I rode my bike - nice easy pace just to get the legs going and warmed up a bit, only took about 20 minutes or so.
Swim
  • 13m 8s
  • 700 meters
  • 01m 52s / 100 meters
Comments:

I put myself in waaaaay too slow a swim category (mainly cuz when I registered I still hadn't done a time trial for myself) which didn't help. There were 2 bottle necks that happened which caused me to come to a complete stop - you're supposed to stay to the RIGHT people! Especially if you're doing the breast/back stroke and going slower than molasses!
What would you do differently?:

Put myself in the proper category, but overall - the swim felt great!
Transition 1
  • 04m 20s
Comments:

So... we were given wet bags for the transition so the volunteers were supposed to have our bags ready for us as we get out of the pool and into the tent for transition... well, I get into the tent and find out that MY PANTS ARE MISSING! I had taken them off in the holding area and put them in my bag only to have them go missing somewhere between there and where the volunteers were giving us our stuff. GRRRR!!! So then I run to the transition (about a 50m run - glad I brought a pair of shoes for that) and had to dig into my backpack for my spare pair of pants. Thank God I decided at the last minute to bring them!
What would you do differently?:

Bought myself a trisuit so that hopefully I won't have to deal with the missing pants thing again!
Bike
  • 45m 30s
  • 20 kms
  • 26.37 km/hr
Comments:

So... what would a race be without a couple of issues? I already had missing pants, so - what's next? Turns out that my water bottle holder decided to break that day. Awesome. I got to have 1 drink of Gatorade before it went to hell, I was luckily able to grab the bottle and stuff it in the back pocket of my cycling vest, but damn, was that ever uncomfortabel. Then had to deal with the bloody cage falling all over the place as it was still hanging on at the bottom and bouncing all over. Eventually I reached down and just ripped the damn thing out, but I'm sure I said a LOT of bad words at the time.
What would you do differently?:

Getting a rear mount bottle holder - and aero bars (wheeeeee!) but other than that - the bike felt really good :)
Transition 2
  • 04m 20s
Comments:

It was a pretty good distance between the dismount and where the bike racks were, no running with the bike or disqualification... so this seemed like the SLOWEST T2 ever! I had meant to get easy laces before the race, and completely forgot, so had to fumble around with getting my laces done up for a moment - otherwise, kind of dumped everything, grabbed my hat and was on my way!
What would you do differently?:

Um... yeah, see the thing about the laces.
Run
  • 26m 55s
  • 5 kms
  • 05m 23s  min/km
Comments:

Wow do I ever suck at running. I just couldn't get my breathing under control at all when I started out, and it was just kind of a struggle the whole time, but I did it - and, of course, already looking forward to the next one.
What would you do differently?:

Try not to suck so much at running.
Post race
What limited your ability to perform faster:

The fact that I suck at running.

Event comments:

Had a great time, and will be doing the Olympic distance next year!

Couldn't agree more about T2!

I would have lost it with the bottle cage issue, and punched a volunteer for losing my pants. Sounds like you had some adversity but fought through for a good race.

Congrats!

Wow - thanks guys!

No tequila shots this time around (KNEW I forgot to do something!), but did have a glass of wine the night before to try and help me sleep...

Looking back, I thought T1 was actually kinda funny - I stuck my head out of the tent and just started yelling "MY PANTS ARE MISSING!!!" then figured I wasn't gonna waste time with trying to find them so started running down the path to the bike racks, still muttering (fairly loudly, I admit) "my pants are freakin missing!"

Aaaaahhh - steep learning curves... aren't they grand! Wink

Yep, I actually got my pants back!  Went to the wet bag pick up spot and told them what had happened, they sent someone over to the pool to look for them which seemed to take forever - then just as I was about to hop back on my bike to head home I hear someone shout out... Hey - are you the lady missing the pants?  Um... Yep, that would be me!  They found them on the pool deck.  Glad I've got them back, but even more happy that I bought myself a trisuit so that I don't have to worry about missing pants again!

Great race! Good job on over coming inconveniences. Now get your pants less self to the Okanagan for a few races.

I was considering coming up for the Kelowna Apple race, and I've signed up to volunteer for Penticton

I'll try to remember the pants, but no guarantees
