I just got a new pair of Smith Theory Max sunglasses, which I really like. So far I've just used the lenses that came pre-inserted, Sienna Brown. I've only worn them on sunny days and the Sienna Brown works great. They also came with two other lenses, one called RC36 and one Yellow. The RC36 look like a mix between Orange and Brown and don't seem to be as dark as the Sienna Brown lenses. I'm wondering how I know when to use each lense color. I forgot to ask the guy at the LBS and now I'm kicking myself. If anyone could shed some light on this, please let me know.
I usually use a yellow lens if it is very overcast and a dark lens the rest of the time. I also have a clear lens, but I think I would only use that if I were riding at night or something (i.e., just for the eye protection).
Wait. I actually did wear the clear ones once. In the rain.

Ditto. Except I have two pairs, one dark and one yellow. On regular group or solo rides the weather doesn't change much, so I can choose one, but for races I bring both, just in case.
Sorry, but what is the middle range lens used for? I can understand the yellow lens on cloudy days and the darker lens on clear days. I wonder if they just put it in there to offer three lenses. Clear lenses would have been good too.
I find the that orange colored lens tend to be "the best overall if I only had one lens to pick from color" Play with them a bit and see which ones you like. I really like the contrast improvement that I get with the orange color. I'm trying the more brown color in my current biking glasses right now to see if like them.
I have two pairs, of glasses one yellow and one dark. I use yellow on days where its dreary out, cloudy and rainy and whatnot. I use the darks for sun. I would Imagine that the middle of the road ones would be for mosty cloudy or partly suny days, or days where you dont knwo what its gonna do
