Pre-race routine:

Got to the site, signed up. Got set up in transistion and tried to find out as much as possible about the course.
Event warmup:

Only had time for some stretching and quick swim.
Swim
  • 09m 7s
  • 400 yards
  • 02m 17s / 100 yards
Comments:

I did this race to get some of the kinks out for my other races, especially the swim. This time I was much more comfortable in the wetsuit so I was able to keep my rhythm and my stroke going.
Navigation still needs some help but I think its time to spring for those perscription goggles. I guess it woudl help if I could see where I'm supposed to be going.
A lot of bumping around in this race due to the short distance. I felt I did ok with this as I am usually off hte back and never have to worry about it. Didn't lose too much time due to this, just wish I could have gound someone to draft off of. Maybe next time.
What would you do differently?:

Not much. The swim went much better than my last race.
Transition 1
  • 00m
Comments:

No time for T1. Got the suit off in much better shape than last race. Long run out of transistion to mount line. Got on bike and going pretty well. Had trouble getting one shoe clipped in.
What would you do differently?:

Nothing
Bike
  • 37m 25s
  • 12 miles
  • 19.24 mile/hr
Comments:

I took it easy on the first loop to get a feel for the course and then pushed it on the second. Had some trouble getting into my cadence on the first loop and struggled on the up hills. Was able to make up some time and catch a couple people on the final downhill.
Roads were rough and had to take it easy on the corners due to the RD's warnings about complaints from locals during the last race.
Overall a nice course. Challenging
What would you do differently?:

Not mucj. KNwoing the course now will help if I get to race at hte next one.
Transition 2
  • 00m
Comments:

This was the first time I tried taking off my shoes on the bike and it worked pretty well. Again had the long run to the racks. Put on the running shoes and headed out.
What would you do differently?:

Nothing
Run
  • 26m 4s
  • 3.2 miles
  • 08m 09s  min/mile
Comments:

Time includes T2.
Had some problems getting up to speed, once I got my pace to where I wanted I was able to hold it and start reeling in some people (except for Mountain Breeze!)
Felt good once I got my legs moving.
What would you do differently?:

More bricks
Post race
Warm down:

Changed shoes, packed up and headed home.

What limited your ability to perform faster:

One thing that might of hampered my performance was how to schedule my eating during the day. I probably could have used a good snack in the mid afternoon, but things were so crazy at work even if I had one I woudl hae forgotten to eat it. Just something to remember for next time.

Event comments:

Good low key race to practice the areas you want to improve on.

Super race report.....nice race to get the kinks out!!

You too must of passed me in the last mile or so since I finished about 4 minutes behind you...but I was a one looper.

What was that funky stuff in the water? Weeds? Floating something? Good job on the swim...I always work on staying calm and comfortable...speed comes last.

Everyone was friendly and I had a blast. I wish I could do them every two weeks...next year...but it is a drive for me.

Great race, you will be scary wiithout kinks

A note on prescription goggles, kiefer has them pretty cheap but there only good if your eyes have similiar prescription. If you have significantly different prescriptions, try eyedoctor.com. They will make to spec, but they cost a little more ($100). They took longer than I would have liked but I really like the end result (Barracuda is the goggle brand).

Manatee,

Thanks for the info on the goggles. I have one eye near sighted and one far sighted, plus some other problems with my eyes. It's a wonder I get anywhere without my glasses. I'll look into the goggles you recommended.
