Hey there all!  So who is going to be participating in the Seahorse Tri this upcoming weekend (5-30).  This will be my first one and I will be doing the sprint.  I am super excited about it and heard that its going to be a lot of fun.  I am planning on going to the 101 on Saturday, I heard that they do a really good job with this.

Any tips any of you would like to throw out would be appreciated?

I am doing this next weekend. Last year the Seahorse was my first tri ever and really enjoyed it. The 1010 really helped me last year too. I did the sprint and doing it again this year. One other thing is that over half the sprint run is a trail run, which I liked.

I might be doing the duathlon.  My wife is due with a baby any day, so it's a waiting game right now.  If the baby is born Monday or Tuesday I'll be racing bikes in Frankenmuth next Saturday & not racing Sunday, but if it's born later in the week (but not the weekend!), I'll race Seahorse since it's close to home.  I'm hoping that one of the two races works out!

I am doing this one as well and heading down the morning of from Muskegon.  It seems like a pretty good race from the race reports posted.  I will be doing the Olympic.  Just excited to finally get to race again after the long winter.

Last year I did Pokagon early in the year (mid May) and was unable to get an OWS in before the race and paid for it quite a bit.  I needed to practice my starts and also sighting before the race but did not because of water temps in MI.  So this year, I am definitely going to do that and would recommend it.

See you Sunday.

I thought about doing Seahorse but am just not ready yet for the OLY.  I've done the OLY three times... great race - oh, and they serve beer after!   Like other posters have said, the run is mostly on up/down dirt trails.  The bike is easy going out but uphill coming back in.  Highly recommend the race.

I did the Sprint last year and really enjoyed it too.  If you are travelling, the improved campsites are nice with a good shower/bath and electric, etc at the site.  My son and I stayed, as I recall, for $10.  It was nice to be able to ride down and set up transition and then walk back to camp and shower and rest up for the start.

A couple of quick things about the course that I remember:

Nice lake, chilly, but nice and clear.  It is an uphill run out of the water up to transition.
Out of T1 and coming in to T2 on the way back, there are speed bumps.  Volunteers will be there to point them out.  Don't try and hop them, go slow and avoid them.  It is not worth the extra few seconds.
The run can get squishy where you cross by the lake, and crowded too with traffic coming back at you.  As I recall, there were a bunch of tree roots on the trails in the outer portion, but 3D did a great job of marking them with orange spray paint.

All encouraging comments.  I am glad that I choose this one to be my first. I swam about 600-700 last night with the new wetsuit.  Lets say I have been doing working on sighting drills for the last couple of month or so in the pool, I was still zig zag all over the place.  LOL

Its a very easy swim course to site.  If you are local, they should have the course set up by early evening.   The turn for home is the easiest to site as you are heading towards the two swim buoys and the bath house at the top of the hill.  The first long out section turns at a point, and as I recall, there was a house across the way that made for something to site in the distance other than a buoy.

This will be my third Seahorse. Right now, I am signed up for the Sprint, but am contemplating moving to the Olympic - which would be my first. The swim is just so damn long!

I think they do a great job with race organization. The lake is nice and clear. The bike is an easy 14 - pretty much a rectangle. Not really hilly. Run is mostly trail. Good choice for your first one!

Got a update yesterday from 3 Disciplines - Seahorse.

Water Temp reported - 70-71 degrees...That's crazy for this time of year.

Wetsuits are still permitted if wanted.

I am in for the Sprint. I have done the Oly a couple times in the past and have really enjoyed it. The run course is really fun.

I didn't see this thread before I headed up, I wish I had, I would have tried to meet some of you folks while I was at the race.

This was my first race outside of Ohio and my first Oly distance race. I loved the venue and the race was fantastic! I apologize if I happened to pass any of you on the course and talked your ear off. I was having so much fun on race day that I couldn't help but talk to everyone that I happened to pass during the day. So yea I was the bald guy with the mouth that just wouldn't stop while I was biking and running..I still haven't figured out how to talk and encourage swimmers yet.

Hope everyone had a great race!

I had a great time.  I was reading Kenny blog last night and it looks as if someone goofed on the course so everyone rode a mile shorter than they were supposed to, he said that there was no complaints as everyone did this.  The person that was directing turned everyone off early.

My swim was good.
My bike was decent.
My run was lets say less that spectacular...LOL

I had a great time and already looking forward to my next one.  I need to get stronger from the bike to the run.  Means more 'BRICK' I guess.
