Precipitation
Total Time = 2h 52m 32s
Overall Rank = 167/350
Age Group = Athena
Age Group Rank = 1/5
Pre-race routine:

Would have been 10/17 in Female 25-29, 28/115 for overall female rank.

Last night Jon and I went to Sampores for Italian. It was VERY good. We stayed at the Hampton Inn, just a few miles from the start, and they were so nice! They recommended the restaurant and had a hot tub that we relaxed in for a very very long time.

Last night we hit the hay after 10pm and got up a little after 5am. I had trouble choking down a bagel and peanut butter, but whacked a gatorade with little difficulty.
Event warmup:

Lots of dynamic stretching... I figured with the lack of quality training that I needed to be extra warmed up. Got in the water (62* did NOT feel that cold!) and did some swimming with three 10 second sprints.
Swim
  • 23m 25s
  • 1640 yards
  • 01m 26s / 100 yards
Comments:

Tried drafting, but I kept tapping the poor girls feet. Oh well. Tried not to kick too much because I felt my timing chip sliding off my foot AND I forgot to take my wedding bad/engagement ring off-already lost them once!
What would you do differently?:

Take my rings off, tighten chip, get goggles that don't fog.
Transition 1
  • 01m 59s
What would you do differently?:

Nothing that I can think of. Maybe no socks and have shoes already clipped in?
Bike
  • 1h 34m 40s
  • 24 miles
  • 15.21 mile/hr
Comments:

Roads were WET! Saw three women completely splattered on the road. A volunteer at a fork in the road was assisting one of them and they didn't have an extra volunteer to guide racers. I figured we were supposed to go right, but I was wrong! Got yelled to, came to a screeching halt and almost wiped out myself. Turned around and lost all the momentum I had gained coming up the hill.

Error number two occurred when my glasses fogged up. I saw people ahead of me getting off their bikes and I figured it was the dismount line (I didn't have my computer on my bike or my Garmin on my body to judge distance with). Turns out they were getting off their bike to WALK UP A FRIGGIN HILL! It was too steep to try to get back on my bike so I had to walk my bike up the hill too. I was sooooo annoyed!
What would you do differently?:

Pay better attention to other markers to determine where the REAL dismount line is!

Jon and I had tried driving the course the day before and it didn't help because the map was NOT clear at all. Maybe if we had correctly been able to drive the course I wouldn't have had the difficulty?

Plus, I don't know if it was because it was wet or because I'm partially color blind, but I could NOT see the orangish/red arrows on the grey pavement most of the time!

On a POSTITIVE note, I did AWESOME with the hills!! I just went joy riding up them, high rpm and whizzed down them. Too bad it was so slippery because I definitely could have had a higher average. I really, really should work on averaging 17+ mph!!!
Transition 2
  • 00m 52s
Comments:

Did pretty good here!
Run
  • 52m 4s
  • 6.2 miles
  • 08m 24s  min/mile
Comments:

I felt damn good on the run...for the first 2 miles. Then the pain in my side caught up to me. I started out nagging me and by the end of the 2nd loop I was happy that I was almost done! I never was in severe pain, but I know that if I had been doing Lake Placid and I felt it like that then I would have slowed down. I still felt strong on the run and I think I only had one female completely blow past me. She was easily going under an 8 min/mile pace.

It was kind of funny... I would take a sip of water at every aid station (total of 8 times!) and I'd dump the remaining on my head or down my back. EVERY time I gasped at how cold the water was! But it felt sooooo good!
What would you do differently?:

Nada.
Post race
Warm down:

Waited for Jon. xoxo

What limited your ability to perform faster:

The quality of my training for the last month has been seriously lacking!!!!!

Event comments:

We got a shirt, water bottle and finishers medal (I got a second medal and $25 gift cert to TriSports.com for winning the Athena category). The food was okay. It was a sub with a LOT of meat on it-which would have been fabulous if I wasn't a vegetarian. Got a package of Oreos and a granola bar and chocolate pudding. I was really surprised that there was no fruit there.

I loooooved this course. It was GREAT! The organization was superb, the volunteers were fabulous! I just think the race was pricey. It was $120. Ouch. I would do the race again if it wasn't so damn expensive. Glad I did it, though!

Good looking race.  The stretching was a good thought.  Need to a little yoga for that side.  My suglasses fog on the bike witht eh right conditions too.  I hate that.  Keep up the training for LP.

Nice job. BB is a tough course no matter the distance. Always good to know you can conquer those hills before going to LP. Good luck with your training.
