AUUUUUUGH!!!! I loved when Sun & Jin remembered. So heartbreaking and touching.

I knew Juliette would be her doctor! And now Sawyer will run into her at the hospital, and then they will both remember. Let's have coffee, dutch. Duh.

AUGH!!! I love this show.

this was easily the most incredible show ever... I lost count of the times I was choked up during the final... each time someone remember I would gasp/laugh/sigh/cry  so loudly my dogs would bark..    while i can understand how people will think "small chunk" and want exact answers on things.. big picture wise I think this was fantastic. ... anytime a story has me able to experience the range of emotions the final ( or show for that matter) can do,  is an incredible feeling..

i should just cancel my cable now since nothing will top this for a while

just the knowing smile that each person had when they became aware of everything was incredible

My initial reaction is not positive.  I feel really let down.  Which is really unfortunate, as I've been confident all along that the writers would really bring it for the finale and go out with a huge bang.

... I think I've just always been way too interested in the science side of this show than the faith side.  I've said all along that I hoped that it wasn't all a spiritual/religious/faith/purgatory/etc thing in the end.
Boo.

(Maybe I'll be more satisfied with things after a night of sleep.  I'll report tomorrow.

Best show ever!!!

Loved the finale...very emotional and it really nailed what this show was about...the people.

I will greatly miss this show. It got me through long rides on the bike trainer. Thankfully I have them all on DVD to rewatch again.

I thought Jack's death scene was beautifully shot and acted.

I thought the whole episode was beautiful storytelling and acting.

This is from filmfodder.com:

At this point I'm interpreting the whole alternate timeline as some sort of post-death "practice" environment where our characters rely on each other to work through their issues, confront their demons, and do the things they need to do to move on. That kinda-sorta explains why last week Desmond said Ana-Lucia wasn't "ready." And in this episode, Ben doesn't go into the church because he still "has things to work on."

By the way: HOW ABOUT FRANK LAPIDUS!!!! Never underestimate Burt Reynolds type characters!

Did anyone take note of the stained glass window in the chamber where Jack is speaking with his father?  I recognized the yin/yang and Dharma wheel.

Watching the episode again; so much to take in.

Nobody does it alone. Nice.

And when Eloise asked Desmond if he was "taking her son", he replied something like "not with me"... I guess Daniel wasn't quite ready, either....

Count my wife and I among those with you.  This ranks "up" there with the Dallas "dream" and St. Elsewhere's "Snow Globe."  A weak, cheap, easy cop out which tarnished the previous 6 years.  After season one everyone was speculating the island was some sort of limbo/purgatory and the writers insisted this was not the case.  Almost everything would be explained as being based in science they said.  Now we find out it WAS a type of purgatory and none of it was real?!  And despite their putting "multi denominational" symbols on their "church's" stain glassed window, I felt like I just had a Christian religious lesson rammed down my throat.  A totally unsatisfying ending to what I thought was one of the best shows on TV.  Thumbs DOWN!

Whaaaa???? I am a Christian, and the ending did not have any of this, that I could see. At best if we're talking religion, this was a Universalist ending - all roads lead to heaven, you don't have to really repent or anything to get there. You just have to be "ready". No talk of Jesus or anything, and He's pretty foundational if we're talking Christianity.

At any rate, I liked the ending. I totally cried when Claire and Charlie found eachother....I love their story, and I love both of their characters. OK so I also cried about Sayid and whatever her name is too. I also thought it was so sweet when Kate told Claire that no one know how to be a parent, at least not at first.

I loved it.  Up until last night, I was pretty unhappy with the final season.  But the finale was great.

This is what I took away from last night:

  • They really were all on the island and Jack really did save the world (if he hadn't put that cork thingy back in, the world would have ended)
  • The alternate time line was a purgatory of sorts...and each time someone remembered, they were remembering their death...like Jack remembering his death at the very end (which is partly why each one of them was so emotional and crying when they remembered...not just that they missed/loved the person they "remembered" with)
  • Vincent is freakin great...what a dog!  If I'm alone in the woods about to die, I can't imagine how comforting it would be to have him laying there close to me while I pass over.
  • I'm torn on the very, very end.  Jack, before he dies, sees the plane that Kate, Sawyer, Lapidus, Miles and Clare are on flying over.  But during the credits, you see pieces of a plane on the island, and no human movement.  I took that as their plane crashing and everyone on board dying.

If I can't come here with the stupid questions, where can I come?

Dumb it down for me...

1 - were they dead when Oceanic 816 went down and the whole thing was an afterlife of some kind,  or...

2 - were they dead after the h-bomb and the sideways world was some sort of post-death exercise to work on things?

Also...

any significance to the plane flying overhead as jack is passing?  Outside of a neat touch.  I mean, they're dead too, right?  The folks on the plane were in the church at the end?

So....who were The Others the whole time? Are they people who were also dead, but on the island as well? And what about Widmore? Whats his deal? He was no where to be found at the party.

Okay, I'm ashamed to admit I'm a little (a lot) confused.  I like the episode a lot - but unsure about what it really meant.

I initially took from it that the plane crash was real, the island was real, what happened was real - but the alternate (sideways world) was the purgatory......that they went there when they actually died, not necessarily at the same time.  My husband and I were scratching our heads trying to figure out why Michael and Walt weren't there - and why was Aaron there?

Maybe I got this all wrong and they actually died in the plane crash?  I feel stupid - I guess I should have this figured out, but maybe I'm trying to put too much thought into it.  I knew that they wouldn't give all the answers - it'd take forever and be impossible to boot, but I wish I knew what the heck it meant.  I think I have to watch it again.

I took it as everything that happened on the island ACTUALLY happened.  They survived the original plane crash.  They went through all of that crazy stuff on the island, etc.  The alternate timeline, when they met in the church, their "purgatory", could have been waaaay in the future after everyone finally died.  They were all waiting there, in that alternate time line, until they all died, got back together, and then were ready to move on...

There seems to be a lot of different take son what was real, what was not etc...(not only here but in my "real world too )

Here is my take...

The island was real, they crashed (and lived) and went through all sorts of adventures.  When the H-bomb went off it moved the island back to present time but no one died (Juliet did but only after the bomb went off knocking them back to the present).

The sideways world was really a "flash forward" to a time AFTER everyone died.  As Christian said some died before you some LONG after (Kate and Hurley and Ben and Aaron for example).

Jack died on the island after laying down in the bamboo (great scene BTW, nice full circle).

The "sideways world" was a form of Purgatory where people have to work through their problems before "moving on".  I thought the multiple symbols in the stained glass was a bit cheesy (all the major religions represented).  Ben had issues to deal with and stayed behind.  Might explain why we never saw Michael either.  Purgatory is a traditionally a place to atone for your sins.  Both Ben & Michael had a LOT of attonment to deal with.  Of course Said did too but we could nit pick all day.

So if you consider it closely, the sideways world story line was really a denouement to the main story line.  SO if you take this into the consideration the REAL story line ends with Locke and Jack dying and Hurley taking over the island leaving a TON of unanswered questions.

I almost do not want to focus on that too much because it makes the "real" story line pretty weak in it's ending.  Bad guy gets killed by good guy, good guy sacrifices himself for the good of others.

I liked the sideways world storyline it's just seems like it was totally unrelated now that we find out it's AFTER the events on the island.

BTW did you see the Target commercial with the smoke monster and smoke detector.  Laughed our butts off at that one.

There were a few Target commercials....one with the keyboard and one showing a wild hog running through the woods.  Hilarious!

Before the start of the finale, they were showing Final Transmissions....texts/emails from fans.  Did anyone see that?  That was great!
