DOUBLE C RACING

Overcast
Total Time = 1h 15m 45s
Overall Rank = 62/81
Age Group = 40-45
Age Group Rank = 0/
Pre-race routine:

Had a ham egg and cheese on English this time. New to me. Not sure it quite worked though. Had a slight tummy issue that I can not quite place. Just distracting, not a problem though. This was the first time for this combo pre race.
Event warmup:

Took the bike for a quick spin just to make sure it was in the right gear and nothing broke on the ride up.
Swim
  • 05m 9s
  • 273 yards
  • 01m 50s / 100 yards
Comments:

This was most likely the worst swim I have ever had in a race. Even with the chop at Lobsterman, I did not suffer like this. Had not been in the water in a few weeks, so my aerobic fitness was not up to snuff. Knew I might be passed as the girls who seeded themselves behind me were in relays and had nothing to do but burn speed. I was passed after 75 yards and again about 50 yards later. I kind of appreciated it as I was able to catch a quick breather.

For the first time that I can recall, my swim was not my strength in a race.
What would you do differently?:

Train more consistently
Transition 1
  • 00m
Comments:

Struggled a tad getting my cleats in and up to speed, but not enough to loose more than a second. Just not as crisp as I would like. This is why I love tune up races. :)
What would you do differently?:

not much, I just miss transition times in my official times.
Bike
  • 37m 14s
  • 10 miles
  • 16.11 mile/hr
Comments:

Nailed this course!! I have ridden it enough to know it quite well. Had tactics to sit back a bit out or T1 and put the most effort into climbs that a max effort would yield a high speed at the top. I was not going to get looped into huge efforts and still massive drop offs in speed. Got passed a few times, but I held on quite well today.
What would you do differently?:

Get my average speed up. The computrainer was huge getting my form better and my cadence smooth. Very happy with the results on this ride.
Transition 2
  • 00m
Comments:

Struggled a tad getting the shoes off while on the bike. Going to have to work on that one a little. Just rusty I guess.
Run
  • 33m 23s
  • 3 miles
  • 11m 08s  min/mile
Comments:

The usual weak spot here. I thought I had great turn over and form. Effort was quite hard, but training dictated the speed. Not too happy about the mile markers being off a bit. Mile 1 was my slowest time and was 100% flat. Going into mile 2 had a nice little climb and was my fastest split, so I figure either I am a freak, or the signs were off :)
What would you do differently?:

train, what else is new
Post race
Warm down:

ran right past DK after the line. Got tapped on the shoulder and saw a blur of burgundy and black. Knew the burgundy was a Trifury shirt and the black was hair. Without looking back, I knew it was DK. Had a little water and a few bagel bites.

What limited your ability to perform faster:

take a wild guess....hmmm train more?

Event comments:

Love this race because of the following.
-close to home, no real travel time
-newbie friendly. Highly suggest pool starts for first timers.
-small field. Either know 1/2 the field, or end up chatting with 1/2 the field. :)

Nice job on the first race of the season. I noticed train more in your report. I call you I'm working on getting up for morning swims at SL.
