Run
Comments: Wasn't sure how to attack a DU so I took it easy on the first run and just kept a nice steady pace. What would you do differently?: Warm up a bit better and cut a little time off on the run. Could've saved a bit of time if I started out a bit quicker. Sign up for a tri and forget the first run all together. Transition 1
Comments: Felt a little backwards, but everything went well. What would you do differently?: Nothing Bike
Comments: I was real happy with the ride. I went with the plan of attacking the ride and pushing the big ring throughout. Finished first in my AG and 6th overall, I'll take that any day since cycling tends to be a weak event for me! Rain didn't hit til about mile 10 or so. Pulled out the Renn disc wheel, and Hed front. Wasn't sure if it made sense to go through the trouble for a shorter race. What would you do differently?: Left a bit of time on the course for the first half mile til we hit the first turn, should have gone out a bit harder. Transition 2
Comments: Not sure why this took 10 seconds longer, though I was messing with the Garmin so that caused me to slow down a bit. Run
Comments: After pushing the ride I took the first mile to get in my rhythm and was around 8:15 pace before starting to let things go and pick up the pace. What would you do differently?: Felt pretty good with the effort here, may have been able to pick it up a bit earlier Post race
Warm down: Tossed my medal into my cycling shoe, had a gatorade then started running the course in reverse to find my bride. Stopped at the second aid station on the run and picked up cups for the volunteers before continuing on. Ran back with Karen, then chowed down some pizza, which was actually quite tasty. Karen placed 3rd in her AG so we hung out for her award. Finished 24/78 in Mens division. What limited your ability to perform faster: To many old dudes, 40-44 was the largest AG. Need to find some more run speed, not sure how easy that will be to do unless I lose a few pounds. Event comments: Nice race overall, but I'd rather do a tri. Not sure how many more DU's I'll do in the future. With the rain and the amount of goose poop on the tarmac it was kinda of nasty, wish they would've been able to run a brush truck across the run/ride portions that went down the tarmac. There was no way to avoid it. Also a section at the south end of the run crossed over a grassy area which was water logged and mucky. Glad I didn't wear the Zoots I would've been soaked in the first mile. Otherwise it's a decent venue for a nice early season start. Last updated: 2010-05-23 12:00 AM

Up at 4, small bowl of oatmeal, banana and coffee. Drove to site early and got a good rack spot for K and I. Chowed down a Cliff bar 45 minutes beforehand, then a GU 15 minutes.
Run around the lot, with a few pickups.
