Craziest thing that's ever happened while training? (Page 3)

Ha! That's pretty funny.

Ran over a rattlesnake that was in the striking position.  Yep.  My post-ride revovery was a Shiner Bock and...doing the laundry.

Last weekend I was on a training ride when I came upon 2 squirrels having an intense conversation about Geico insurance.  One turned right into the woods and one turned left and darted under my wheels.  I had no reaction time to try to avoid hime.  Bump bump and the poor little chap scrambled away but afraid he didn't last much longer.  Then 2 days later, I saw a white squirrel a few miles from the same spot.

Crazy squirrels! 

Out biking it was summer time and hot. 
Storm blows in and it is pouring rain I am soaked, but it feels great to cool down. 
A lady in an SUV pulls over in front of me gets out of her SUV in the pouring rain and is flagging me down.
I slow down to see if she needed something.

Lady "Get in I will give you a ride home"     
Me "umm no thanks I am almost home' 
Lady "No really I will take you home it is raining" 
Me  "Thanx but I fine and almost home"

I was riding down a country road a few weeks ago and there was this big semi truck that just wouldn't pass me.  He was behind me for several miles and there was plenty of opportunity.  When we came to a stop sign I pulled well aside for him to pass.  He rolled down his window and was holding up his hands and yelling something at me.  I thought he was pizzed or something that I was biking down the side of the road.  He scooted over to the passenger side and yelled "you were going 25 man, awesome!" 

I was out running in my neighborhood and some people doing door to door sales tried to stop me in the street to purchase something.

Ummm, did they notice I was running and didn't have a purse with me? 

I chart out my training rides on mapmyride before I go, so I'm never sure what I'm in for.  Once I picked what I thought was a nice hilly route with a moderate climb back to the main road.  At one point, I'm pretty close to lost, when a car drives past and pulls into a driveway.  I call out to the driver, "hey, is this Rocky Point Road?"

She looks at the bike, looks at me, laughs, and says "Yep.  Hill's just around the curve.  Try not to puke!"  I got a closer look at her as I passed by, she's obviously a cyclist.  Three minutes later I'm standing up hammering it in my lowest gear trying to get up a gravel road, failing, and under too much torque to clip out.  After falling I managed to slide about a quarter of the way down the hill before getting a foot out.  At that point I could only laugh at myself.

Not training per se, but my latest embarrassment: my coworker taught me how to carry the bike up the stairs by propping the top tube on my right shoulder.  Well, that shoulder was sore from kayaking so I think "no problem, I'll just carry on the left shoulder".  Five minutes later I'm changing in the bathroom at work wondering how the heck I managed to get bike grease all over my jersey, shorts, arm, hand, and face.  All on the left side.  It actually took me a minute to figure out why.  Sometimes I think I'm too dumb to be an athlete and should stick to something simple like neuroscience. :P

nothing to crazy but I was nearing the end of a 25 mile training ride and was about 400 yards from my house so I had my ipod turned up really trying to crank out the last bit when i faintly hear a barking sound and I at first dismiss it but then I kept hearing it louder I looked down and had a dog 6 inches off my heal trying to bit me I ended up with a great sprint on the final 300 yards lol

coming home from a particularly nasty 65 miler, I'm coming up a slight hill that dead ends into a wooded area and you have to take a right (road shaped like an upside down L). well, about 50 feet after you crest the hill, someone had rigged up a rope from tree to tree----across the street----with no sign, or bright colors to draw attention to it. i was so focused about the upcoming turn, I didn't see the brown rope that sort of blended into the woods in the background. It happened exactly like it does in cartoons. I got clotheslined....as i'm dusting myself off, cussing out loud, and checking out everywhere i'm bleeding from, a runner passes by on the sidewalk, stops, and asks me if I am okay. apparently he saw the whole thing. I shook it off and got a ride home. I look around to see if anybody is videotaping me or something, but nobody aside from the runner was around. as i turn around and get out my phone to call home, a car comes up the same way and almost runs straight into it.
I felt pretty bad that I didn't see the rope, but after someone in a car almost made the same mistake, it made me feel better. still didn't make it any less embarrassing when I told my friends/family...

I was on a ride last year through some nice farm land. In a patch of woods between two fields, there was a motorcycle parked and a couple getting.... friendly.

I was clearly not the only one getting a workout that day!

I was on my mountain bike on a cow path in a pasture when I got to a tree with low hanging branches.  I slowed down and ducked thinking I would just plow through the branches.  One of the branches went between the vents in the front of my helmet, scraped along the top of my scalp and shot out a vent in the back.  I popped up into a wheelie and fell flat on my keister.  The branch broke off and stayed in my helmet.  It barely scraped my head but my arse was killing me. 

I was on a long run on my back country farm roads and it was 5-6 miles into it and I am totally zoned out and relaxed.   Then all of a sudden it feels like someone grabbed my foot and I almost tripped me and I nearly fell, it was a border collie that grabbed my heal of my shoe.  Teeth marks in the back of my heal and scared the he%# out me!!   The funny thing that I got bugged about is my last name is MUTTON and everyone told me that he was just herding me

I had a circus squirrel decide to jump through the front "hoop" and promptly turned into a magician's helper squirrel when I sawed him in half. I also had the coyote run out of the woods that apparently didn't see me and ran right into the side of my leg. I don't know who was more suprised (probably the squirrel - I wonder what was the last thing through his mind...)

Today I was doing a bike workout when I notice a raccoon come darting out of the grass on the side of the road.  I thought for sure he would stop but instead he ran right into my back tire.  I turned around and saw him continue to run across the road as if nothing happened.

I coulda sworn I started this thread. I'm sure I started a couple like it! Love all the crazy stories.

As for the all-time craziest stuff that happened while training, I'd have to really think about it.

But for sure the craziest training DAY I had was when on an OWS I got bitten on the lip by a fish and it blew up (the lip, not the fish, unfortunately); a coconut fell and hit the front tyre of my bike; I literally RAN INTO a hot guy on a run, he asked me out on the spot, we had our first date with me stinky and soggy and dripping wet from the run, and he wound up becoming my boyfriend.

left my car key behind the front wheel before getting in the ocean for an ows...30 minutes later when I got out of the water my car was gone...someone stole it...got it back later though

Swim:
Was swimming alone in a small lake and swam OVER the top of a large turtle. Felt like swimming over a big hubcap! Scared & surprised me so badly I thought I was gonna drown. Thank God I was wearing a wetsuit.

Run:
Found a cellphone on the side of the road. Called the number marked "HOME". Told them where I was running, and the cute girl found me and got the phone. Not even a thank-you kiss!

Was running along a trail that ran next to a road, when a car pulled up and stopped beside me.
The woman driving asked me to MAKE her male passenger get out (apparent domestic dispute).
I asked him if he was going to get out, and he said no. I pointed out a fire station up ahead and recommended she go there and call the police. She drove away.

Bike:
Was riding on a hot day and a couple pulls along side and hands me an ice-cold can of Dr. Pepper out the window. It tasted awesome!!

Riding down a deserted country road and found a woman with a flat tire. I stopped and changed the tire for her. She thanked me and drove away, with probably a funny story of her spandex-clad guardian angel! haha

Wow, after reading these stories a lot of them sound like the beginnings of bad porn movies! haha

I ride rollers in the winter.  If I watch NASCAR I have to watch out not to lean around the corners.  

I thought it was limited to the rollers till one day after an hour on the t-mill watching NASCAR.  I start leaning to get my guy around the corner and I run off the side of the treadmill.  It was like all of sudden I'm standing on side of the t-mill, belt still going.  Just like the rollers you just stop except on (off) the rollers you fall over. 

I take Sam the Dog OWS in the lake.  We get a lot of odd looks.  She swims just behind me no leash or anything.  She can go a mile plus and want more.  She chicks (b*tches?) a lot of swimmer.  The oddest was, you swim a buoy line so you are close to swimmers going the other way.  At like 6:15am some guy stops me and ask if he can pet the dog.  Dude its the middle of the lake at the butt crack of dawn.  Sure go ahead.  She has a better following at the lake then I do.  If I don't take her I get asked where she is.  Walkers and runners at the park stop as we come in to see what I'm towing.

Managed to cut every toe on both feet, both ankles (either sides I may add), one knee, one elbow and one hip during the transition / brick session this weekend - Quite an achievement i feel!!  Racing this coming weekend too, that may be a little uncomfortable .

Wasn't quite the controlled and elegant run off the bike I was aiming for LOL
