Subject: RE: Raced naked....liberating kagoscuba - 2010-05-24 11:07 PM So, I decided to take Aquagirl's training advice for me to train naked to racing naked this last weekend. No Garmin and no watch. Decided to just race by how I felt....it was liberating and made me enjoy the race that much more. Granted, I'm not racing for a podium spot for overall or AG. Heck, I just race not to bonk and burn off the beer calories. Racing by RPE made me smile at those still coming my way and speaking a little to those around me about how good they looked and to "keep it up." I felt like crap on my run, but just kept on saying, "gut it out and don't stop running, no matter what your pace feels like." If I'd had a watch, maybe I would have gotten discouraged at one point and never gotten to the point later where the run felt more free. As it was, I beat my last time at the race by 12 minutes and felt more "in tune" with how I was feeling/racing. Thank you Helen for inspiring me to ditch the electronic gadgets, and thank you BT community for inspiring me to HTFU when I needed to. This is how I raced when pregnant (no watch or bike computer - I most certainly wore clothes! ) and like you, I found it to be so liberating that I have raced all of my races that way since! I made the decision to race without the devices so that I wouldn't over do it and risk harm to my baby. Now I do it because it is much less stressful. I sometimes wear my watch but I haven't used a bike computer since before I was pregnant with my second child. |
