Total Time = 1h 10m 43s
Overall Rank = 41/71
Age Group = 45-49
Age Group Rank = 6/9
Pre-race routine:

Woke up at 6AM. Coffee and 2 bananas. Coffee was weak and didn't stop for another or better coffee. Easy ride to the venue and plenty of parking. Checked in and used the bathroom. Plenty of rice and no pork on Saturday so GI was OK. Took a caffeine gel 15 minutes before the event.

Event warmup:

Did dynamic warm-up with Emily and then 300y easy in the pool. Kathy stayed at the hotel nursing her knee. I was very sad she was not there.
Swim
  • 07m 14s
  • 300 yards
  • 02m 25s / 100 yards
Comments:

For me, not a bad swim time, but I am not happy with it.

Even though starts were 15 seconds apart, the pool degenerated into a free-for-all. There was a huge guy behind me doing the butterfly who actually swam over me. I stood up once or twice to catch my breath. It was so choppy I had to really rotate to get air.
What would you do differently?:

More swimming training and more 25's and 50's for sure to improve my pace.
Transition 1
  • 02m 27s
Comments:

Not a terrible transition. No wasted time, was using the Kuota, so took me longer than I'd like to get going and clipped in.
What would you do differently?:

Focus on being efficient.
Bike
  • 39m 1s
  • 10 miles
  • 15.38 mile/hr
Comments:

Bike course was very nice, traffic light and lots of volunteers directing. Police at each intersection. Great planning and execution by RD. Course started off dry and then it began to drizzle and was very slippery, almost lost it on road paint. Flats and uphills were fine, but I went slower than I'd like on the downhills because I have no desire to crash. Legs felt the burn the whole time, so I know I was going as hard as I could other than downhill.
What would you do differently?:

More time on the bike would help me be more comfortable with the speed. The Kuota is much faster than my Felt and I need to get it fitted better as well.
Transition 2
  • 01m 37s
Comments:

Good transition. Wasted no time and sprinted out. Took longer to get my socks on than I'd like. For a 2.5 mile, maybe socks not needed next time.
What would you do differently?:

No socks or stretchier socks.
Run
  • 21m 23s
  • 2.5 miles
  • 08m 33s  min/mile
Comments:

The moment I was waiting for. This one was for Nanu. On par with my PR 5K pace, even after swim and bike. I went as fast as I could and still manage my HR and breathing. I will never forget this run.
What would you do differently?:

Not one thing.
Post race
Warm down:

Ate some junk carbs and walked a little.

What limited your ability to perform faster:

Under-trained on bike and swim, but not too badly. Damp roads on bike, but it rains on race day too...

Event comments:

FIRM did a nice job. Very well organized and executed, especially considering how many new folks there were. I plan to do this race again next year.

You did Nanu proud Kevin! Great run and strong biking and swimming. I have never done a pool tri swim and cannot imagine what the chop and chaos would be like. Way to hang tough!  Butterfly??
