I mentioned in an earlier post that there was a reporter out last week. Article is now up (linked below). I guess I didn't say anything exciting enough to get included in the article.

http://www.chicagotribune.com/features/columnists/ct-talk-brotman-swimdanger-0815-20110815,0,4549453,full.column

I just saw this article before reading here and posted it in a separate thread.  I think it is a little over the top.

I'm supposed to race Sunday. Unfortunately, I'm sick! So I'm a no. But I'm sure Nexus and some of the other regulars we know from our motorcycle message board will be there.

doh!  Didn't read this before I swam.  Yep I was there and will pretty much be there most Saturdays at 6 or 7am

We need "Beginner Tri" swim caps so we can see who's who :P

Yes we do!  I was there a little later Saturday - I'd be happy to go earlier to meet some folks next Saturday!

I should be there this Saturday for my last OWS swim before the Chicago Tri.  Most likely about 7ish is what I'm thinking.

Brilliant!

I also plan on being there several times during the week leading up to Chicago - my pool is closed for two weeks for maintenance cleaning - bad timing!

So tomorrow night, some other night this week and Saturday morning!

Edit:  I'll stand on the beach hollering "BT"!!!!   I won't really but hey - it'd work!

I'm sure if you go early enough it won't be a problem, but this weekend is the Chicago Air and Water Show, so that could present some problems. I'm going to try and generally avoid the Lake Shore all weekend (except when I go to watch the plans of course!)

Thanks for the reminder on that one.  Don't think I'll be doing any OWS this weekend.

Hey all, sorry I'm just now finding this site (I've been mostly just reading articles and working on a beginner tri 10 week training program...which I got ahold of 8 weeks out from Chicago). Anyhow, first time out on the lake to "really" swim today..really choppy and hard to deal with. Somewhat took the wind out of my sails since I did approx 1/2 mile and ended up stopping multiple times due to both heart rate being way too far up and being unable to sight anything farther out than 20 yards due to the waves.

Thought I'd introduce myself and let ya'll know I'll be the guy swimming at Ohio street beach almost daily (minus the air and water show this weekend) around 430/500pm to get as acclimated as possible. I'll be in a black tri top and black bottoms, please do say hi if you see me..first time tri here and would love to chat with other beginners as well as experienced tri folks.

Cheers,

Brian

Welcome Brian,  I remember how I felt the first few times I was in the lake.  It can be a little overwhelming.  Just an fyi, on race day because the race is held in the harbor, the ater wont be anywhere near as rough as it is at ohio st beach.  This may put you a little at ease.  I typically swim in the early mornings because I work at night and on the weekends.  But i am ususally off on mondays and tuesdays and typically am in the water about the same time.  If I see you i will def come introduce myself.  Good luck and remeber above all else, HAVE FUN!!!!!!!

I was out at about 4:45 yesterday - I've done two races and some OWS but I've never swam in anything that choppy!!!  It was a bit disconcerting!

I was the 6' tall chick, black suit, white cap, blue goggles and chest tattoo

I plan on getting out there another afternoon this week for sure.

I don't want to deal with the Air and Water show so I'm heading out there around 4 today

Do you know which race he is doing (SuperSprint, Sprint, Olympic)? I guess in retrospect I could have just asked him this morning!

I read somewhere that he's doing the SuperSprint. He also has competed in it in the past.

Was out there yesterday, 230-4 or so. Amazing weather but that wind was kicking up 4 foot swells...loved that this was my last pre-race OW, awesome work out but I'm also thinking that the transition from that to a hopefully very calm harbor on Sunday will work in my favor.
