Subject: Wetsuit fit- between sizes!

I got a new wetsuit for Christmas (or at least the promise of one!)- I've tried a couple and I just ordered two of the blueseventy reaction suits (since I was between sizes on the chart and wanted to try them both).  I have a short torso and long legs, and I'm about 5 pounds over my usual racing weight (and expect to be back by July for my first sprint).  I like the fit overall, but the larger one is not snug around the middle, which I kind of like, and it's a little long in the torso.  The smaller one is great on the bottom, but it's pretty snug around the shoulders.  I still have fine range of motion, but I'm not sure it will be comfortable for a long swim (my last wetsuit was a little big so I don't have experience with those on the snugger side).  I can definately breathe though.

I'm not sure the last 5 pounds will come off of my shoulders, but then the larger one will be even bigger in the torso.  Do wetsuits usually fit pretty tightly? Should I scratch this version all together and try something different?  At least it does fit!

Thanks!

As long as the openings for the arms, legs, and neck are snug the wetsuit will do its job.  They need to be this way, not so much to prevent water from entering the suit, but to restrict the amount of water flowing into and out of the suit.  A suit that is a  little  loose around the stomach isn't going to be much of a problem, and should work as it is designed to work.

I don't seriously that you will loose any size in the shoulder when you loose the five pounds.  Fat, when lost, come off equally, percentage wise,  from all areas of the body that contain fat.

Did you try them in the water?  I've found "too tight" when they were dry quickly became "perfect fit" when they were wet.

But x2 on try a different brand.  I always talk up the De Soto suits because you can buy a two piece.  Fits me way better than any of the one pieces because it decouples the length of the torso from the rest of the fit.

When I went to a local Nineteen dealer to try on suits I was in-between sizes too.  The larger one was too big in the shoulder area but just right around the middle.  The next size down was snug all over (more so in the middle).  They said it was a good fit and once I was in the water it would feel much better.  Plus I would like to loose 10-15 lbs over the summer, most of which should be coming from my midsection.

Different brand..DeSoto makes two piece wetsuits so you can get different size top and bottom. After having regular once piece wetsuit for 5 years switched to DeSoto and I can't tell you how much better it fit and more comfortable it is.
