Age Group Rank = 20/25
Pre-race routine:

Up at 5:15 after a rough and noisy night at the Holiday Inn. (Note to self: don't stay in hotel where there are kids' sports tournaments in town.) Ate a banana, and a rice cake with peanut butter and headed out. First tri-day is underway!
Event warmup:

Setting up transition and getting into wetsuit was plenty of warmup!
Swim
  • 12m 38s
  • 200 meters
  • 06m 19s / 100 meters
Comments:

Bay was nice and warm, considering. Got kicked a bit when we started. Freestyled for about 20 yards and then flipped onto my back. Buoys were big enoght to sight on my back for the most part. Yeah, did the while thing backstroke. Not particularly fast that way, but I got it done.
What would you do differently?:

Learn to swim freestyle.
Transition 1
  • 02m
Comments:

Guessing on T1 time. I thought I did it pretty quickly. Suit came off easy.Ran out carrying my bike gloves and realized there was no way to get them on while I was riding, so I stuffed them in my tri-suit.
What would you do differently?:

Put gloves on before mounting.
Bike
  • 19m 34s
  • 3.7 miles
  • 11.35 mile/hr
Comments:

Fun!Bike is my favorite leg. Just felt so good! Was raining pretty steadily, so I was conservative about speed, especially on turns. It was over too quickly.
What would you do differently?:

Go a little faster. Wear my gloves.
Transition 2
  • 00m 45s
Comments:

Very fast. I actually stood there for a moment thinking, "Is that all I need?"
What would you do differently?:

Nothing.
Run
  • 22m 43s
  • 1.7 miles
  • 13m 22s  min/mile
Comments:

My HR never recovered from all the excitement of first race, and the swim, so I was way out of breath by the run. Walked for a bit in the middle to bring it down, which helped me finish.
What would you do differently?:

Race my race to better control my HR.
Post race
Warm down:

Walked back to transition, ate an orange and drank some water.

What limited your ability to perform faster:

Not enough training.

Event comments:

Great first tri experience. Would definitely do it again.
