Subject: Need help comparing Fit calculator and bikes
Hi all.

This summer/fall I am going to buy my first Tri bike but I have still not found a LBS that carries tri bikes that are in my price range (max $2.000) (I live in Copenhagen) so I have been looking into ordering a bike online to be within my price range.

I am 84 kg (185 lbs) and my height is 193 cm (6'4 ft). My goal is Ironman but for know I am training for olympic distance and 1/2 IM.

From www.competitivecyclist.com I did a TT fit test and I have been trying to compare the numbers they give to geometry from bike manufactures without success. These were the results from the TT fit test:

The Competitive Fit

The Eddy Fit

       The French Fit

Seat tube range c-c 61.6 - 62.162.8 - 63.3 64.5 - 65.0
Seat tube range c-t 63.5 - 64.064.7 - 65.2 66.4 - 66.9
Top tube length 58.4 - 58.858.4 - 58.8 59.6 - 60.0
Stem Length 12.2 - 12.811.1 - 11.7 11.3 - 11.9
BB-Saddle Position 93.3 - 95.392.5 - 94.5 90.8 - 92.8
Saddle-Handlebar 57.7 - 58.358.5 - 59.1 60.2 - 60.8
Saddle Setback 5.9 - 6.37.1 - 7.5 6.6 - 7.0

The bikes that I have been looking at are:

Fuji Aloha 1.0 2010 - http://www.fujibikes.com/Specialty/Triathlon/Aloha10-(3).aspx
Felt S22 2010 - http://www.feltbicycles.com/International/2010-Product-Catalog/TT-TRI/TT-TRI-Series/S22.aspx

Do either of these bikes fit me if not do you know of a bike that would?

If any one could help me it would mean a lot.

Is there anyone in your area that has a Fit or Exit bike?

If so they should be able to give you your stack and reach numbers.  Then you could use this chart to find a bike that is closest to your size.

You hit the wrong button.

The numbers that you're showing are from their "road bike" fit and show the 3 different styles of road fit.

Try again, redo the fit, post the new data here, and things will become slightly more clear.

This link should get you to the right calculator:

Well.... that certainly gets you a step closer.  However, I'm not knowledgeable to get you much further than checking the top tube length.

I don't know how kosher this is, but I'm going to suggest that you post to another website for help. Slowtwitch.com is not necessarily the friendliest place, but the amount of depth of knowledge on there is beyond belief.

So, I'd post your question there.

And in your price range, I'd also consider some other manufacturers.  Cervelo P1 for example is a great bike, and a lot cheaper than the Fuji.

Ok, I will try to post there.

I contacted the two stores that cell Cervelo here in Denmark according to cervelo.com and they told me that P1 is only sold in the US. :/

I actually lived in Denmark for a bit.

Are the taxes on high end bikes anything like the taxes on cars?

By any chance, have you considered taking a trip to New York or Vegas to pick up a bike?

From what I have found out bikes go under the normal tax which is 25% here in Denmark.

I have a trip planned to NY in August but it is with a stop in Iceland for 1 day when going back to Denmark so I am a bit scared of buying a bike in NY and then having to pay taxes both in Iceland and then in Denmark when I arrive there.

How are the toll-keepers at airports towards bicycle boxes? Do they ask questions regarding is this a new bike or do they inspect them to determine if they are new or not?

This is solely my opinion.

But I can't imagine them asking about a bike box, let alone opening it and inspecting it.
