Sunny
Total Time = 1h 08m 16s
Overall Rank = 35/269
Age Group = M25-29
Age Group Rank = 5/15
Pre-race routine:

Got up 5ish, coffee and cookie and out the door at 6. Got set up met up with Kevin and Maia and some other fellow t2 triathletes. Took a warm-up jog of around 1 mile.
Event warmup:

Took a warm-up jog of around 1 mile.
Swim
  • 14m 15s
  • 800 meters
  • 01m 47s / 100 meters
Comments:

Can't complain about this one. I haven't been training much speed work for swim bike or run, but in decent shape otherwise. I had good navigation and stayed within a few meters of the buoy line. Found some feet to pull in behind and relax for a few hundred meters.
What would you do differently?:

Train more speed oriented, but that is not me
Transition 1
  • 01m 46s
Comments:

volunteers helped me out of the water, big step up on the swim exit very awkward. got the wetsuit half off while running to the bike. had about a 5 second mental lapse where I couldn't remember what to do next. Chalk that up to first tri of the year with no transition prep or planning.
What would you do differently?:

Have thought about my order of business in transition before actually arriving there.
Bike
  • 28m 44s
  • 10 miles
  • 20.88 mile/hr
Comments:

I knew this is where I would be lacking today. With around 5 hours total this month on the bike and most of that being just easy spinning I could not expect to generate much power throughout this ride. I did manage to keep the heart rate somewhat up and kept my quads screaming the whole ride.
What would you do differently?:

Ride bike more, but I have been making an effort lately to train less and mostly train running. So that is what I would do differently to improve.
Transition 2
  • 01m 13s
Comments:

went fast, had a bobble with the bike rack moving on me while racking my bike, spent a few seconds re-adjusting that. Got the shoes on and took off with visor and belt in hand.
What would you do differently?:

Nada
Run
  • 22m 20s
  • 3.11 miles
  • 07m 11s  min/mile
Comments:

Felt good on this run. The first mile I was pushing it but watch read 7:44(HR416) Maybe marked long, maybe I was rusty. The second and third miles I was drastically faster (7:10(154), 6:55(158), :26(162))and once I got back to transition area two 45-49ers passed me and I fell in behind them for a quarter mile or so but could not stay with them. It did help me keep my pace up in the last mile though which was the objective.
Post race
Warm down:

Layed in the grass and watched finishers come in. got some pancakes and coffee.

What limited your ability to perform faster:

Overall lack of speed training. I have been working solely on endurance running lately, so I did not have high expectations coming into the race. I was VERY pleased to beat my time from last year by over 2 mins. That was mostly made up in the difference between a bad swim last year and an average-good swim this year.

Event comments:

This is a good local Northern Colorado race put on by my coach and 2008 womens amateur ironman world champion, Wendy Mader. This is a well run race with just enough for you to leave satisfied.

Great times!!  I too had a problem with racking my bike.  I thought the set-up was good (spaced out) though.  I read your review from last year and it helped me with my prep for this years race...Thanks.
