Comments: Started back behind 2:10 pace group and quickly realized that was too slow. First mile is downhill, so after getting rid of first rush of excitement I settled into a good mid 8 pace. Couple quick miles, got through water stations well and made it through first 7 miles feeling great. Then started to feel the heat and fatigue. Took my shirt off because of chaffing, and after mile 10 just toughed it out. Last couple miles in the mid 9's. Tough finish uphill in 90 degrees...so happy to finish. What would you do differently?: Felt strong passing others which helped me mentally, so I might only start a little further forward at the start. Find someone in the last 5k to run with. Just floated and couldn't maintain or find a comfortable pace. Post race
Warm down: Ate some bannana's, energy bar and stretched in shade. Drank 3 bottles of water. What limited your ability to perform faster: Training up to race was not that great so, I think I could have been below 1:50 if I had better runs in last few weeks. Very relaxed before my 1st 13.1. A energy bar, half cup of coffee and more water. Drank a lot of water on Saturday in anticipation of the heat.
Just a little stretching.
