This was my first triathlon ever! Excited to see how much better I'll do this year compared to last year.

I will be there. Should be a quick little sprint. 3 laps on the bike could be a little hectic but I expect it to be quite the TT. Shooting for 1:10 total.

Hopefully it won't be too cold.

I love the pancake. I won’t be doing it this year, unfortunately, but I’ve raced it a couple of times. It does, however, have the worst race t-shirt ever. Ever.

Here’s a tip: During the swim, don’t look for the buoys—instead, sight off the towers of the Verrazano Bridge—they’re much easier to see. If I remember correctly, you can swim directly towards the middle of the two towers and that’ll take you to the swim exit buoy in a straight line.

Have a great race!

There’s not much to know. The bike course is a 4-mile loop of the road that runs alongside the beach. You come out of the parking lot, turn left, go down to the end and make a u-turn, then come back to where you started, make another u-turn and repeat two more times. (Or is it four loops of a three-mile course? I forget. Anyway, it’s pretty easy to figure out by looking at Googlemaps. There’s no terrain or turns or anything to worry about. It’s the closest thing to a triathlon in a velodrome that you’ll ever see.)

The run is out along the asphalt path alongside the boardwalk in the same direction as the bike. You go out about 1.5 miles, then run up onto the wooden boardwalk and run the remaining distance on the boardwalk to the finish line. Again, you can probably figure it out by looking at the aerial maps on Google.

Anyone taking the ferry from Manhattan?  Would the 6:30 be too late to get there in time to set up for transition?  Thanks.

Was it just me or was that the longest 400m swim ever? The top swim time was 8:33. 2+min 100m for the best swimmer there? Not possible. Anyone get it on GPS?

I completely agree - definitely longer because I didn't feel a strong current. I got outin 11:30 soemthing and didn't know what was going on.

While we're at it, the bike was probably only 11.6. And I felt like the run was short but I overheard the race director affirmatively state it was a 5k.

Overall I really liked the race. It will be that much better next year if that road is paved.

Seriously.  I'm a fast swimmer (ended up 22nd overall I believe) and I touched the mats in 10:33.  For reference, my pool pace is under 1:20/100m for longer distance.

I got it on my garmin (using the new "swim" mode), however it came in at 1500m, which is also in no way correct.  Taking the start and end points on the map (that should show correct from GPS) and mapping it out gives about 600m or so - that's believable.  Remove the extra 60ish seconds from water to mat and I'd be at a 1:35/100m pace.  I'll stick with the "It was 600m" story

I had the bike at 11.61 miles and the run at 3.02 miles, once again based on GPS accuracy for what it's worth.  Both could have been affected by race lines (esp. on the bike) since there was a bit of side to side movement if you had to...ummm...dodge potholes
