I have two of the Xlab rear-mounted gorilla cages on my bike and two Camelback water bottles (these: http://camelbak.com/en/sports-recreation/bottles/podium-ice.aspx) -- I find that these bottles are really easy to fly out of the cages when you hit a bump.  On a 20 mile ride last weekend, they flew out 3 times until I finally got fed up and put them in my jersey pocket.

I really like the bottles that they have a seal so that they don't leak and don't have to worry about popping a top open to get a drink, but can't have them flying out all the time.  Do others have these bottles with the gorilla cages?  What others bottles do you like that are known not to fly out?

The heavier the bottle, the more apt it is to fly out ... regardless of the cage.  Think of it this way: you hit a bump with your tire, your bike is built to be stiff and so the energy travels through the bike and makes it way to your seat, it then flexes the rear bottle cage carrier that then flings the bottles out.  The heavier the bottle, the more force it has pushing it out.

I use a normal 20 or 24 fl oz bottle with "normal" carbon cages. While I still have a bottle drop occassionally it does not happen as frequently.  I have also noticed that only full bottles fly out, not empty ones.

Bottom line: you'll have to rid yourself of those heavy bottles ... or at least not put them in the rear cages.

I use the water bottles sold by Xlab in my Gorilla cages and they have never popped out, even when I almost flew off the bike on big bumps. It's probably a form-factor thing between the bottle and cage.

Bottles flying out are due to the setup of the wing and the angle of the bottles. If you give Xlab a call they will help you out. They have great customer service. I had an issue with my wing not staying in place and they shipped out a new wing to me in time for my half IM free of charge. Give them a call.

I have the camelbak podium bottles also, but on a Hydrotail.  Only time I've launched one was when I didn't get it all the way seated in the cage.  I use the cheap Arundel Sport cages.

I live in Chicago home of the potholes. My Xlab Gorilla Cages have never launched any of my water bottles.
