Total Time = 1h 45m 38s
Overall Rank = 69/238
Age Group = 35-39
Age Group Rank = 10/31
Pre-race routine:

Short drive from home since I live in Sartell
Event warmup:

Light 15 min run with Sam and lots of stretching. My right calf had not been hurting for the last week, but didn't want to take any chances, so really spent a lot of time stretching it out. Bagel and banana with a little water and single cup of coffee. Typical for me, I drink way too much before races and spend a lot of time in the bathroom. Not so bad today, though.
Run
  • 22m 31s
  • 3.11 miles
  • 07m 14s  min/mile
Comments:

Started with a very slow pace - was second to last in my wave, but just wanted to see how the leg would hold up as I hadn't had any long runs since the injury. No pain, whatsoever, so I picked up the pace about half way through. Otherwise uneventful.
What would you do differently?:

Nothing
Transition 1
  • 01m 2s
What would you do differently?:

Still just taking it easy - afraid I might somehow injure the leg.
Bike
  • 58m 6s
  • 20.68 miles
  • 21.36 mile/hr
Comments:

My best time for the course. HR just stayed in zone 4, but RPE wasn't all that high. Not sure why. Took in one gel and 24 ozs. of half diluted GE. Probably not enough as I felt a little weak by the end of the second run. Having started relatively far back on the run, I did pass a few on the bike. I think I recognized Birkie fly by me a few miles into it. I'm guessing he was a good 10 min behind me at the start, given his wave. Amazing how fast some of these BT'ers are. Congrats! Anyway, bike was otherwise uneventful.
What would you do differently?:

Not sure - very happy with the time, given my training has been for long course - IM Wisconsin. Little nervous that the HR wouldn't come down.
Transition 2
  • 01m 3s
Run
  • 22m 58s
  • 3.11 miles
  • 07m 23s  min/mile
Comments:

Ok, so the leg's feeling pretty good. Always hard to start the run with any speed, as the first part of this run course is up that damned hill. But as I got going, my pace felt pretty strong. Caught up to Sam (my training partner for Wisconsin) whom I hadn't seen since the start of the race. He wasn't feeling too well by mile 2, so I just kept up with my run. Went very well until last 5 min or so - I probably should have taken another gel. No big deal.
What would you do differently?:

Little more nutrition on the bike.
Post race
Warm down:

Gatorade and water - was getting pretty hot toward the end of the race. Lots of stretching - never did feel and pain in that right calf!

What limited your ability to perform faster:

Nervousness about the leg. Not enough fuel.

Nice job!  Sorry I didn't recognize you out there....I think our wave was only 6 minutes behind yours (according to the pre-race schedule info - not sure what it actually turned out to be)
