Anyone doing the pre-swim, pre-ride, or pre-run this weekend?

I'm thinking about it!  haven't been in OWS since Bumpass and now that I am recovered from the creeping crud it would do me good to get in OWS for the confidence building.

Tips-
Pray that the swim is downstream. Last year was tough with the strong current.

Be careful on the run, expecially if you are not used to trail running. The ground is uneven and there are roots and such along the path. Always make sure you can see the terrain ahead of you. Two mistakes I made last year were wearing sunglasses in the woods and following too close. I fell and rolled my ankle and didn't fully recover until January.

mdfahy - 2010-06-08 2:07 PM Any tips for this course from any veterans?

i see you are in richmond - go out and ride the bike course this weekend and have a game plan for attacking that hill.  it is literally 9 miles up and 9 miles down.  last year i walked the last climb because i ran out of gears - this year i know EXACTLY what to do.

other than that...be ready for a GREAT time and some awesome post race bbq and don't be afraid to walk up to us and say hi if you think we are who you think we are.  all BTers i've met at races are very friendly.

I think I will do that, especially after knowing there is a 9 mile hill...OMG!!  Thanks!

I am usually so delirious after the race, I can barely see straight (or worse, in an ambulance like IM 70.3 Florida last month), but I'll definitely be on the lookout for you guys.  I'll probably be in my blue/white orca speedsuit walking my blue/white trek bike, of course you all will have already passed me by then. LOL!  Good luck.

I hit 34 mph on the downhill last weekend.  The climb is SO worth it.  To not freak you out tooooo much it's more like 5 flat, 4 climb, 4 down, 5 flat...L-shape course so really easy to navigate on your own (although everyone misses the Left turn).  There should prob still be orange markings on the street from last week's ride.

They will rack us alphabetically for this race.

The left turn is right after you pass a church on the left side of the road. It is Manakin-town Ferry Rd, I think. Like Marilyn said, is definitely a good idea to ride the hill before the race if possible. I hit 40mph on the descent last weekend, but it sure hurts going up it. I am traveling the next 2 weekends so i probably won't get to ride it again until the race. If I don't get to meet any of you before the race I will probably be hanging out at the RTC tent afterward. 40ish, balding guy, you can't miss me.

9 mile hill?  Oh boy.....  I think the longest training hill I have up here in DC lasts about 200 meters.

It's a strange one.....lots of rollers on the way out then ths beast right before the turn around that is a serious butt kicker.  If you can hold on the downhill is SWEET!!

I had to withdraw from Tavern Cry  Asthma flare for the past month isn't letting go.  Not racing with another asthma flare up.  Did it for Patriot Oly last fall and it was miserable.

I will be volunteering though, just don't know where she'll put me.

Groin injury last week is looking like it will put me on the sidelines for this weekend.  I am so upset at myself, I couldn't wait for this race.

Good luck everyone!

Scratch that...at 96 degrees I'll prob just be rocking a pink sports bra top and tri shorts.  HOLY CRAP our weather is atrocious this week.
