There are no stupid questions on this forum, so feel free to ask anything.

100% of the responses below are going to be along the lines of "swim more, bike more, run more.  mostly easy, sometimes hard."  It's as simple as it gets.

I'd say focus on where your weaknesses are.  If it's all 3, start yourself on a plan (from this site or wherever you choose) and start becoming consistent with your workouts.  Once you've got a base of fitness, then you can start incorporating the more complicated stuff.  Keep it simple until you've got a good idea of where you are and where you want to be.

1.  Were out your shoes, bike shorts and swim apparel.

2.  Go back to #1

Some guidelines:

-A general rule is to keep your weekly volume gains to around 10%.

-Follow a plan

-Spend more time on your weakest sport.  This will also be the sport you can probably make the most gains from.

-Ride with groups/people that are faster than you.

-Focus on smooth swimming rather than powering through the water

Buy a red bike, 'cause they say they're faster.

Really though, the only way to get faster is to stick with it.  Make a plan and stick to it like glue.  Log each and every workout to track progress.  It takes months and years, not days and weeks.  Keeping an accurate log will allow you to see improvements and give you motivation to improve on those.

If you really need instant gratification, though, go with the red bike!

Don't forget to eat well (lay off the junk food and McD's), and get plenty of sleep so your body can rebuild itself after those workouts.

Oh yeah, and get a red bike. Smile

I cant speak for the bike cause I have not found what works for me yet but for running fast, train fast,,,,for swimming fast, train fast and get a good feel for the water. If the feel of the water thing dont make sence to you mention it on here and myself and most likely numerous other people will give ya our 2 cents,,,for what its worth. Hope it helps.

Although it is definitely important to run, bike, and swim a lot I have had two factors that really improved my speed vs endurance.

1.  To run/bike/swim faster you need to run/bike/swim faster.  This means really focusing on pushing beyond your comfort zone with things like interval training etc...  Get that heart rate and breathing rate up and hold it for as long as you can.  You WILL race like you train so if you want to race faster you must get your body used to what that feels like.  It will hurt at first but your body is great at adapting.  Again, don't do this every time or you will burn out but you need to incorporate it into your training.

2.  Dropping weight has helped me tremendously in speeding up.  It's a simple concept.  Carry around a sack full of bowling balls and go for a run.  Now drop the sack and do the same run.  You will be faster without carrying the extra weight.

and if all else fails get a red bike

1 swim lessons. Form is everything in swimming.
2. Ride with people faster than you. Doing this on a red bike does help.
3 build up your distance slowly. Running long slow miles once a week and shorther faster miles the other days will build your running speed. Make sure you get some runs in after the bike.

good luck

Get a coach. Expert help to design/review/revise my plan has been very valuable for me. Also, the knowledge that someone is going to review every single one of my workouts is a pretty powerful motivator. It kills me when I have to upload something that I know is not my best effort.

Regular stretching, of the weak spots within your body. Train hard and it will begin to tell you. For me, the weak spots are hips, lower back, hamstrings. So, I now regularly stretch throughout the week. As flexibility improves so does speed, recovery, reach  (swimming), stride length (running), and position (bike).

Intervals, intervals, and intervals. But, don't increase length/time the same time you're attempting to push speed. Either work length or speed for the week but not both. Always focus on form over length and speed. For me, crappy form in practice can only mean crappy races. Speed is need, but not at the expense of form.

Thanks for the question, it's good to remind oneself.

Just my twenty cents worth.
