question for you IM Canada racers past and present
does the elevation difference affect you ? training in Vancouver at basically sea level will I notice the difference. I did some mountain biking in the Merritt area the last couple of summers and I noticed a big difference. Any thoughts

You wont notice a difference.  I train in Victoria and have raced in the interior a few times (including IMC) and the elevation change didn't affect me.

The valley floor level is around 900' (in Osoyoos) and the top of Richter pass is around 2300'

Yes, it'll affect you by the time you get to the top but probably only affect your vocabulary as you'll be swearing at yourself for not doing enough hill training.
