YEEE-haw! Yes, Texas, it's time for the first in a series of rides designed to acclimate Houston beginners to riding in actual hills. Of course, everyone else is welcome too, as long as you promise not to laugh at me TOO much.

THE DATES: This Friday-Saturday, July 8-9

THE FOLKS: Any BTers who want to come, plus any friends, S.O.'s, and family members who like to camp or are feeling game for the ride.

THE RIDE: Saturday, July 9, 7am. Buescher to Bastrop State Parks, 24 miles round trip. Buescher State Park is off highway 71, basically south of Austin. The ride is a scenic 24-mile round trip between the two parks, consisting of a paved road and rolling hills through beautiful woodlands the whole way, mostly shady. Entrance to Buescher costs $3 per person per day, and we'll gather at the start of the road, directly across from the Lakeview camping area, at 6:50am for a 7am start. For maps and additional info see http://www.tpwd.state.tx.us/park/buescher/.

THE CAMPING: I've reserved a drive-up "water only" campsite (and can confirm that the restrooms/showers are decent) at Buescher State Park for Friday night. Each site takes up to 8 people, so if you're interested in sharing PM me, and indicate whether you'll be bringing your own tent. If you'd like a cabin, a water+electricity campsite, an extra night, or just a little privacy, then call the State Parks reservation line at (512) 389-8900 to reserve your own site. Cost is around $10 per site depending what amenities you choose.

THE BRICK: Those of you who think biking 24 miles in hills is no big deal are heartily encouraged to go running afterwards. There are several trails to choose from. I say, run wherever you want as long as you don't trip over me while I'm taking my nap.

Hope to see you there!

I was just in Buescher & Bastrop State Parks on Friday afternoon, and have been thru there on 8 MS150's once for the Pedal Thu The Pines Bike Tour. It is a great place to ride hills. These are some of the best in the area IMHO. Count us in (me and the wifey).

Hmmm...sounds tempting and I might just drive down early from Austin. We'll see.

BTW, here's a map from ACA circa 2002 in case any of you would like to check it out.

Okay, dude, I still can't see the map... but we'll be across from the Lakeview camping area at 7am. We'll be the six people on bikes. Hope you can make it, and PM me if you need anything else.

athis was a great time. 30 miles of challenging hills on the bike and about 3 miles run over the same hills. Good times. See my log for more details.
