Event warmup:

Hung out with Kelly. Didn't even take my bike for a spin.
Swim

  • 1500 meters
  • 01m 43s / 100 meters
Comments:

I have been only training for sprint distance all year. Have not done a straight swim over 500 meters yet and it showed. I was feeling great and moving through the froups in fron of me and then my lack of training surfaced. Just kind of died about halfway through. My fault entirely.
What would you do differently?:

Train for the distance.
Transition 1

I'm slow at transitions, I accept it for now.

Comments:

This was a good ride for me. Bested my pr for the course by a few seconds. It's actually a pretty hilly course. The problem is it is over crowded and you spend a lot of time dodging people.

Comments:

I knew I was undertrained for this race and promised myself I would not beat myself up for a bad run. I had a bad run and I will stick to my promised.
Post race
What limited your ability to perform faster:

I had a pretty bad achilles strain about 6 weeks ago I have just got back to better. I had planned on doing the sprint for this course and made the request several weeks ago. Unfortunately it did not go through and I was still in the Oly. I decided that was fine and went ahead with it. Considering lack of training and injuries I am fairly happy with todays results.

Event comments:

I probably will not do this race again. It is way to full and I saw several accidents due to congestion and people not being aware of basic riding rules. Many times bikers were 4 and 5 people wide. It is a good race but it is time to move on.

Nice job on the bike. Agree on the crowds, although it seemed better than last year. I'd pay another $20 in entry fee if they capped it at 300 fewer people. It is a great course otherwise. Ditto on the hills on the bike -- while they aren't killers, I always forget about them.

I know this wasn't your race goal and everything, but some of us would kill for that time in an Oly   Great bike, considering the stupid congestion issues!  I was ready to move on from Buffalo after one year, so I know the feeling.

Nice job Bry.  I agree with the problem of number of racers and congestion. That's why I didn't do Buff for the first time in several years this year.  Good luck with the season.

Good seeing you guys yesterday.  I agree about the crowded course; don't think we'll be back next year.  Sad though, as it is otherwise a good race.  Can't risk another trip to the ER.  BTW, J's hand is broken in 2 places.  Surgery on Wednesday.  Afraid his season might be over.  Cry
