Pre-race routine:

Woke up at 4:00. Made coffee, ate a yogurt and a banana. Skipped out at 4:15. Driving to the race, I saw some bars wrapping it up for the night, and it occured to me that the only reason I should be up at this hour was if I was incoherant and getting tattooed. Got to site at about 4:45 and had my spot set up by 5:05. Got marked and bumped into Pirate Girl and Gwozdzilla. Decided after that pleasantness to visit the little triathloner's room. All went well. Drank lots of water.
Event warmup:

Stretched, and chatted.
Swim
  • 18m 31s
  • 750 meters
  • 02m 28s / 100 meters
Comments:

My arms felt like salami's at the beginning, but I rembered to concentrate on my form and that helped a lot.
Transition 1
  • 02m 28s
Comments:

I just don't care yet about my transitions. I'm concentrating on where the real time is for me. When I worry about this time, I'm getting somewhere in my racing.
What would you do differently?:

I had trouble getting my gloves on. Perhaps I should just skip them next time
Bike
  • 38m 13s

  • 18.84 mile/hr
Comments:

I can do better than this, but I'm so afraid of bonking on the run. Especially considering I haven't been training and I still want to remain comfortable throughout the race. Timidity in my cycling was the order for the day.
Transition 2
  • 01m 32s

Run
  • 24m 34s
  • 3 miles
  • 08m 11s  min/mile
Comments:

It was HOT baby! My legs out of transition were a little heavy, but I thought I could run through it, but when I wanted to get going, they wouldn't listen to me. Then I started getting a bit heated when I came upon a H2O station which after a little sip went over my head. That was definitely helpful.
What would you do differently?:

Post race
Warm down:

Warming down was impossible since it was probably 95 by the time I left to go home. Drank lots of water, got a massage, chatted some more and booked.

What limited your ability to perform faster:

Lack of training...no excuses, just a fact. I'm definitely not happy with just competing, so I'm pissed enough to start training in earnest again. Maybe that's the big take away from this race for me. I feel like I could have done 5 to 8 mins faster on this race.

LOL..."incoherent and getting tattooed..."

Sounds like you got some good motivation out of this race (even if it's the pissed kind ).  So get that training schedule together, and hopefully I'll see ya at SOMA in Oct!
