Looking for recs. I'm having some trouble with my ankle (tendinitis most likely) and some issues with my knee. I'm looking for an evaluation and maybe some help with braces and orthotics.

who do you like?

Bonus if it is downtown or westside...

thanks!

J

I've gone to Resurgens Orthopaedics 3x now (ITBS in my knee (can't remember the name of the doc), weird strain of my shoulder - Dr. Titelman and PF in my foot - Dr. Fogle, my cousin) and been pleased each time.   They start out by x-raying and then move from there.  They were helpful in getting me back to my training with practical advice.

If you know for sure that you don't have a structural issue, I might start out with massage/physical therapy, though.  Courtney works for PT Solutions, so she might have some recommendations for folks there.  For the PF, stretching and massage are what have helped me.

I'm not sure what you mean by structural but I don't think I have a fracture.

My doc rec'd resurgens as well so I might try them.

Thanks for the recs everyone...

I would recommend Dr. Scott at Resurgens for foot/ankle issues.  He's very thorough, understands athletes, and will help figure out accommodations to keep you training when possible.

x2 on Resurgeons.  Used the Conyers office once for a work related stress fracture in the foot and was very pleased.

x2 for Dr. Peebles & Dr. Julien

My wife and I had foot and knee pain.  We saw 2 other specialists and neither were able to resolve the issues.  Dr. Peebles and Dr. Julien evaluated us and treated us w/o pushing products.  We have referred many others to them and each have rave about the service provided by Dr. Peebles and Dr. Julien.

I've heard that Dr. Peebles and Julien are both very good, both docs are runners and I think that is a plus for a triathlete patient...I know many foot & ankle docs don't treat knee's but it sounds like he does based on the post above.

The doctors are also good at Atlanta Sports Medicine and Dr. Meyers at Myers Sports Medicine- both are off West Paces Ferry(for their main office at least).

I'm not a huge fan of Resurgens, but i've just had a bad experience with one doctor.  That said, they have close to 100 docs all over the city, so it very well could have been my doctor that was a looser.  If you do go there, and they refer to therapy, I can say from experience that their PT isn't the best.  There are plenty of smaller private practice therapy groups that will give better treatment that goes beyond the standard 'do these stretches and excersizes and let me charge you your copay'.

If you think it might be tendinitis, check out Drs. Sadria and DelFaveroa at First Choice Chiropractic.  My experience is that sports med docs will tell you to stop running, etc. until it feels better, or simply refer you to PT.  The docs at First Choice are very experienced with sports injuries and can actually help get you back up and running with the treatments they provide.

Other rec for orthotics is Jim Fox at Multisport Orthotics.  I saw him last year and got a pair of custom orthotics, which have done very well for me.
