I thought I would start a new thread.  I just signed up for the AquaVelo and since they don't have that race listed separately, I will join in on the full IM discussion.  I am doing the AquaVelo as prep/test for a future IM someday.

For any veterans of this race venue how is the tent areas at the high school?  They mention the school is open for bathrooms and showers but was curious how close things are from the tent area, busy roads, etc.  I'm thinking of doing the AV and can't find any other suckers I mean willing participants to travel with me from Detroit and need to keep cost at an absolute minimum.

Hello folks...I just saw this race discussion.  I've been planning on ChesapeakeMan for my first 140.6.  I haven't officially signed up yet because I'm too scared I'll get hurt between now and then.
(the injury bug has hit me several times and I definitely don't feel 100%, but I am sooo looking forward to September 25th, 2010.

Longest run of the year for me today: 13.05 miles.
Looking at a very long bike ride tomorrow morning.

Good luck everybody!  Stay safe.

I'm planning on doing the AV but haven't registered either as I had my knee scoped in June and just making sure it handles the training.

Turns out my husband has a business meeting the next day close by which works out well for us.

How long is your longest bike ride?

I rode 60 miles yesterday and that is my longest. I can at least said I've ridden a METRIC century now.  My seat was really uncomfortable after 50 miles, I can't imagine how it might feel at 100!?!!  I'm signed up for the AquaVelo, so I get to skip that pesky marathon.  I feel good about the swim, but the bike is a big question.

I think my longest was just over 80 miles...I skipped out on my 5 hour ride this weekend.  Hamstrings just not feeling up to it.  I'm dilly-dallying as we speak!  I've gotta get some work in tonight.  I won't hit my goal for this Mon-Sun, but the week starting tomorrow's hopefully going to be a different story.

Good luck mdfahy.

Anyone else here bringing their family along?  I'm trying to get some logistics down.  We've got a 7 year old, 4 year old, and 5 1/2 month old.  We live fairly close (within a little over an hour drive) so we'll be headed down early in the morning.

All advice is good advice.  What are your families doing for the day?  Are there any items you and your family found helpful or indispensable??

Thanks,
Brian in DE

longest ride this year - 4hours on the trainer. have to squeeze 1 or 2 five hour (or more) rides in somehow. have very low expectations for this my first ironman lot of low HR till I hit mile 18 of the marathon

I have a 5 and 7 yr old that we will be pulling out of school early on friday. the plan is they are going to enjoy the pool and play area at the Hyatt where we are staying and tracking me online with this gps thingy:
http://www.shop.myathletegps.com/main.sc

and can head out to see me when they see me getting close to transitons and stuff

I just completed the longest run of my life today.  18.16 miles!  Definitely a little sore, but I trudged through!  Have y'all officially signed up for ChesapeakeMan?  I've read they're open till about 3 weeks out.  I just wanted to wait until I hit this 3 hour run.  Hopefully, tomorrow I can walk like a normal person!  If I can...I'm signing up tomorrow.

How's everybody else's training coming along???

I am in catch up mode for the AquaVelo.  I sprained my hip flexor at the beg. of my program, so I was out for a few weeks.  I am up to a 70 mile bike last week, which started to feel pretty challenging and my hip has been sore all week from that.  My goal is to get up to a minimum 83 miles (75% of the distance - just an arbitrary % I picked) before the race.  I feel ok about my swim, although I've only swam an HIM OWS once as my longest OWS.

Do you really think they're going to keep ChesapeakeMan registration open that long?  I have a 6 hour bike ride planned for tomorrow morning...I kept telling myself if I could survive the 3 hour run (that I did on Thursday) then I would sign up for ChesapeakeMan...now I'm considering waiting until I complete the 6 hour bike ride.

Fear sucks!
