I'm curious as well. What do you do if you get stung?

Anyone up to do an swim Friday? Maybe BT meal for lunch Friday?

We arrive Thursday probably late.

Jellyfish stings: How to prevent them and how to treat them

Lightweight protective clothing, like a lycra "swim skin" or panty hose, or a layer of petroleum jelly spread on unprotected skin, will protect a swimmers against stings. If you are stung by a jellyfish, liberally sprinkling a meat tenderizer or baking soda (or vinegar for PhYsalia) on the sting may reduce the irritation. Severe allergic reactions (anaphylaxis) are uncommon to jellyfish in U.S. waters, but emergency treatment is essential in such cases.

apparently it was a bad summer for jellyfish stings:http://weather.fox.com/Community/Blogs/Fox_Weather_News/2010/8/9/Jumpin_Jellyfish

the link w/ the nettle map does not appear to be working today

the sea nettle forecast is only good for 1-3 days but today looks to be less than 50% for cambridge - whatever that means. and looks like water temp is low 70s

The jellyfish are still out there.  As best as I can tell, they're starting to thin out, but they're patchy in their distribution, so if you find one of them, you'll probably find a whole bunch.

I'm glad you pulled the trigger!  Misery loves company!
We've got over 225 people...pretty cool.  I still can't get my head around this distance...in one day!  Unreal.

Enjoying your taper everyone?

I'm doing my first ride over 5 hours this week.

Anyone know about drink on bike course? The information says Gatorade Endurance which I understand has been discontinued.

Do we have to get out of the water to do the second loop?

I'll make sure to check the expiration date on my bottles after handoff.
Kathy, are you going to have any taper going into this?  5 hours sounds pretty long at this stage of the game.

No taper...I have almost 20 hours of training this week.....I'm just doing the aqua bike full sort of as practice for IMFL on 11/6.

I know some folks do it as sort of long training day in prep for later season IM. I hope to race it to the best of my ability/fitness allows.....no short brick after it, I want to finish the bike panting, spent and knowing I gave it my all.

I emailed my questions to the contact and heard back within an hour..impressive...asked if it was really Gatorade Endurance, flavor, if we get out of water between laps and what's the latest on jelly fish..

Here is the response...

Gatorade is supplied directly from Gatorade and is not available in stores, it’s lemon lime..

You do not get out of the water on the lap two of the swim and the last update on jelly fish was that they cooler temps have them sinking down and by race day they shouldn’t be of concern.

I was on the fence about this race for quite a while and it snuck up on me. Now it's closed. I sent an email to see if I can still sneak in... If they say yes... I'm in. We'll see.

Either way, good luck to you all.

a training partner is going up to blue marsh this sunday am for a last open water swim before chesapeakeman. i can't make it - any interest? Blue Marsh Lake (1 hour, 26 min. drive) I spoke with one of the park rangers at Blue Marsh and he said the swimming there is open year round at your own risk, but that it is also duck season and there will be boats out there. he needs one more to make a safe swim
