Pre-race routine:

Rode down the day before with G. Corn and checked in. Ate a good pasta dinner that night and hit the hotel. Woke up at 5 and had a power bar, propel and water. Took a gel ~30 mins prior to the start. Was to be ~20 mins, but they got a late start.
Event warmup:

Swam a hundred yards or so to get loose and ensure the googles were adjusted correctly.

Comments:

Took the swim fairly easy. Tried to stay away from others at the beginning and it wasn't too crowded. I sighted well and seemed to not have to make major course corrections. I never did find anyone my pace to draft off of, so I kept the strokes long and never got tired. I got swum over on the back stretch by a couple of guys from the wave behind me.
What would you do differently?:

Nothing, swim was good. 4 mins under last year without a wetsuit. I'll take it.

Took my time in T1 this year. I jacked my HR last year, so I decided I'd just walk quickly up the big hill. Seemed to work better. Put on shoes at the bike since I hadn't had time to practice the mount with them in the clips.
What would you do differently?:

Practice my transitions.

Getting my HR under control took all of my focus for the first several miles. Got into a good rythm and just cruised. I like this rolling course. If you use the gears correctly and don't burn yourself at the beginning, it's a lot of fun. Stopped for a potty break at the top of a hill and ended up in a red clay patch ... took a couple of miles before I could knock it out of my cleats and clip in again.
What would you do differently?:

I think I paced the bike well. Thought it was going to be slower than this considering I was working to hold back.

Killed me again. I started out easy as I had planned to. Just wanted to hold ~8:30 pace which shouldn't have been a problem and break the 2hr mark. Did that for the first 4 miles then just became drained and was suffering goose bumps from heat stress throughout the rest of the run. I kept trying to drink and use the rags to keep cool, but didn't seem to work. Suffered through the run.
What would you do differently?:

Need more heat training and more running time.
