Well I am down the the last 9 days prior to my first Tri. Really looking forward to joining the ranks with the rest of the nuts out there.

Hope to meet a few of you at the event, I will be doing the 5 Mile lake event on the 19th.

Looking for other events (sprint) to attend around WA during the summer. Any recommendations, please let me know.

Dave, Thanks for letting me bug you at work with all the Tri questions

5 Mile Lake is the course where I did my first tri, too.  (different race name).  Prepare for the dark water, it's peat  fed, so very dark, can't really see your hand in front of your face.  It's a fun race, really fast!

I think I am doing the Cottage Lake Tri that day, the Elite wave, where you do a supersprint and then repeat it!

Good luck to you out there, you'll be hooked!  You can search for race reports of 5 Mile Lake if you want to learn more about it.  Mine was the Federal Escape Tri in 2007 and 5-Mile Lake Women's Tri in 2009.

I'm doing cottage Lake too (but not the Elite double loop). I did it last year and it was my most fun race all year!  If I see you Leslie, I'll be sure to say hi.

To the original poster, check out some of the races in Elma.  The organizer does a bunch of Tris during the summer and it's a really fun and flat course. great atmosphere and perfect for beginners.

I agree with the recommendation for Elma.  I did the du there last year (my first multisport event). I'm going back on Sept 6th to do the tri.  Its a small venue, which makes it easier to get started.

I did the Memorial Day tri in Elma for my 1st ever.  It was a great event, very laid back atmosphere.  The course was nice and flat and the spread afterward was great.

I liked the event so much I'm doing a couple more there as well.

P.S.  The water in that little lake was cold earlier in the year but has been getting warmer as of late (I live nearby)  There is about 4' visibility in the lake with a nice green color to it.  I have been really enjoying training there and I'm looking forward to the next tri (July3rd).

Down to last 4 days until the first tri.  Hard to taper the training down during this week. Feel like I should be doing more.

May shoot for the Elma Tri. Trying to talk my 8 year old daughter into doing the kids course during the same event. She had fun at the Sound to Narrows last weekend. She ran the kids course.

Has anyone done the Grand Colombian Tri?. Thinking about doing the Oly in Sept. Let me know

Hey Eric, getting jazzed? I'll be there supporting a buddy who's doing his first Tri. I may get a wild one and do it myself. What is your bib number, I'll watch for you.

Fort Lewis army base down near Tacoma holds sprint triathlons in June/July/August.  I'd definitely recommend them for getting into the sport.  They are organized as you'd expect from the military.  It's entirely on base so they close the roads for the bikes.  And they limit the field so the swim start isn't too crazy either.  $50 to sign up or $10 if you're in the military.

I'll be there, rain or shine, to help out with the race. Though right now it's not looking like it'll be anything close to "shine"...

Completed my first sprint tri yesterday 6/19. I enjoyed the experience. The rain made the event more interesting, but being from the Northwet, I am used to it.

I completed the course in 1 hr 21 min came in 93rd out of 231, and 12 out 15 for my AG. My goal was to complete the course in 1 hr 30. I was very happy with my results. My transition time sucked, however it will get better with time and experience.

My highlights of the race: Could not get my shirt on in T1, could not tie my shoes in T2. Tried to drown myself during the run while drinking water out of the cup. However I enjoyed every minute of the race. It is an experience

Still need more work on the swimming, felt good on the bike and run. Now I have a base to work from and where to improve.

Here are my results:
swim - 7:30
T1 - 1:28
Bike - 45:21
T2 - 1:41
Run - 25:35
Total - 1:21:36

Best race quote of the day:
Don't worry, we'll get your shoe

Dave,
Thanks again for answering all of my questions

Looking forward to the next race, I'm hooked.

Sunday morning - Muscles are a bit sore, however still going for an easy run today.

Happy fathers day
