Has there ever been a slaughter like this in the semis?

It sort of goes to how unpredictable this sport can be.  They tie Ghana and only get us by 2-1 if I recall...)  Beat France by 1 in the last minutes.  THEN kill one of the overall favorites with home field advantage?  Think Neymar had THAT much of an impact?  Maybe not losing his actual presence but perhaps a psychological blow?

Germany only scored 7 goals in ALL of group play!

Said it in the beginning, no way a defense that plays Luiz,Julio Ceasar and Marcelo wins a WC - didnt see this happening but glad it did. Brazil is not the same Brazil that we all grew up with that took our breath away - the 1982 /86 teams....they lack the flair of those teams and I believe its due to the players now being European based and not playing in their own country

Well, that was a bit like watching a train wreck. I don't think I would want to be on the streets of Rio tonight or related to one of the players. Brazilian futbol fans are not very forgiving. I am routing for Argentina, just because I don't want to see an all European final. We shall see.

Apparently being a Germany fan is not safe at the moment either.  They were holding them in the stadium for a while to let the locals cool off or go home...

Most amazing international match I've ever seen.

German fans mingling with Brazilian fans after the game outside the stadium on the news looked safe enough to me.

Still smiling from last night. that was awesome.  What a show from the Germans, watched it over with my son and he was blown away.

Two things, the Brazil team had a bad day at the office, that's true.  But the German team played so well they made the Brazilians look like a Sunday League pub team.

One thing that stood out was the speed of the German guys throughout.  apart from the massive goal haul :-

Woot Woot Argentina did it! What a great game> I think they got robbed earlier in the match with the off sides call on that goal, but in the end, they did it the hard way. Should be an interesting final Sunday.

I was also glad that Argentina won. I think Messi is the world's best player and I'd like to see him win a WC. I'll go out on a limb here and predict that Germany will not score 7 on Argentina. But it would be tough to pick against the Germans.

I had Argentina / Germany as my final in the ESPN bracket....( backdoor brag) - hoping Argentina try to be more adventurous in the final..

Curious why LVG didnt sub the keeper again....

He has definitely been questioned about that.  Frankly, I thought NED play in the last two had been quite boring, but then saw an article this morning that in the last WC and this one, they have not scored a goal in the quarter, semi or final.  So in 5 matches, they have yet to score.

I believe the two best teams are in the finals.  I hope, beyond hope, that Argentina win it.  I want nothing more than to see Messi not only lift the cup but also have a hand in the win (score, assist, something) so that his people will actually accept him.

Howard not making it to the short list of Golden Glove is criminal. He doesn't have to win it but really? Not been a nomination?

Agree, it just shows how messed up FIFA can be.

If I read it right only 3 get nominated and its hard to say that they are not worthy.....not to say Howard isnt either...he may have got edged out by Navas since the other two are both in the final and have gone further in the tournament than the US ( Navas also advanced one more round)

Well, it didn't turn out the way I would have liked it to, but it was a great championship match.

Bit disappointed but not entirely surprised.  Messi couldn't do it on his own and the team missed some golden opportunities.  Sad that they didn't win.

In closing, for me for this WC, I read "8 World Cups".  Very good read covering the last 8 WC's (not counting this one but counting the follow up qualifying).  Written by the NY Times Columnist George Vecsey.  Highly recommend it.
