"So last Friday I was making plans to have a mellow weekend.. I thought.. a nice easy ride on Saturday, probably a 12 mile run on Sunday but other than that it was going to be an easy mellow weekend… or so I thought.

I used to live at the base of Mt. Diablo too! For a while on the Walnut Creek side (my mom is still there), and later on the Clayton side (Morgan Territory Rd, literally across the road from the park.) I'll have to read the race report now!

ETA: And I must say, I don't miss living there. Every time I go back for a visit I'm amazed at the amount of traffic at all times of day/night. I've really turned into a CO girl...

Back to add again: I used to train horses at a barn on North Gate road... not certain if it's still there. And my dad was VERY involved in a lot of stuff on Mt Diablo -- creating the "Trail Through Time" geology walk, the Mitchell Canyon Visitor Center, and working on the board of the MDIA (Mt Diablo Interpretive Assoc, an educational group about Mt Diablo) There is even a picnic table dedicated to his memory at the Mitchell Canyon Visitor Center and we hiked up to Mitchell Rock to spread his ashes....

Sorry, but thinking about Mt Diablo just brought back some great memories of my dad.
Here's a link to the latest MDIA newsletter with an article on my dad: http://mdia.org/PDF%20Files/MountainNews/MtnNews%20Spr-Sum2010.pdf
