Subject: Resources for a kids triathlon bike?
My son (11yo) did his first triathlon today on his 30lb Huffy special.  Of course he's into it and he wants to go full tilt with a bigger/lighter bike.  I want something that will last a year or two and is 'lightish' but obviously I don't want to spend a grand on something new.  I think he'd be better off with a road bike as well, though he's good enough on the bike to handle a tri-bike.  His distances are between 4 and 8 miles, so I'm not sure there's a lot to be gained in the aero position.

I've already tried CL and there's nothing there.  Perhaps somebody in here has one for sale or can turn me onto a resource.  Thanks!

We bought our 7 year old a road bike with 24" tires from Performance Bikes.  It's perfect for her and she enjoys doing short rides with me. It's a Fuji Ace 24 and I think I paid around $350 for it.

Your son might be big enough for a road bike with 650 wheels.

we got our 6 year old girl who is now 7 a specialized hot rock
http://www.jacksbikes.com/contents/en-us/d519_Specialized_Hotrock_A1_FS_24_2008_Girls.html

our older daughter is 10 and she got the Giant Women's Avail in XS
http://www.smartcycles.com/entry_level_road_bikes.htm

I think i would spend a few bucks on a bike with some room to grow like a men's xs version of the above. a road bike would be great. of course if you use the LBS you get the service and often the fitting for free.

you can always snag a tri suit on ebay cheap, swimoutlet.com for closeout swim gear, running shoes and other clothing at
http://www.6pm.com/kids

hope that helps. and dont forget to register for ironkids-alpharetta before it sells out. BT has a nice show of talented parents cheering for their kids there. errr I mean talented kids getting cheered on by their loutish parents.

Doug
You can borrow our older one's PT training disc (its really a cover but it looks awesome with the swirly sticker). Ours will be using the HED 6/9 stallion PT set on race day.
