Event warmup:

Swam around while they were counting down to the start.

Comments:

My navigation was horrible. Every one had bright orange or yellow swim caps... the same color as the buoys. I got off course so many times. There was only one good sighting location and it was on the short side. Coming back to the dock was over 1000m long and had maybe 4-5 buoys. I was smoked before i got to the first turn. After the turn the water become choppy real fast and hard to get a breath. I had water in my lungs and nose and I think there still is some near my hippocampus.
I fully respect those marathon swimmers.
What would you do differently?:

I can get a lot better with training. I would love to try one of these again someday.
Post race
Warm down:

Tried to keep from falling over. I was so dizzy when I stood up.

What limited your ability to perform faster:

I had not swam more than 800m in the two months before this race. I had not done any training for this race.

Event comments:

Holy cow! What ever possessed me to swim a 5K? Not to mention first time in a lake. This was an incredible challenge. What a gut check.
