Overall Rank = 235/
Age Group = 55-59
Age Group Rank = 2/
Pre-race routine:

search for parking. had some intense "gi issues" coudn't eat breakfast at all
Event warmup:

really just walked to transition, then got into the water for a BRIEF but shocking orientation to the water...then to start the swim waves we walked down the beach to the start. I thought this was an excellent way to do a short swim like this..just a beeline back along the shore-sighting off the bathhouse & transition are..
Swim
  • 13m 5s
  • 600 yards
  • 02m 11s / 100 yards
Comments:

This really was a great swim course setup..
and tho the water wa quite chilly -once you got past the whoa factor it was tolerable- I.m not sure how a longer swim would have felt in this cold water...
What would you do differently?:

I was a poser for this swim --haven't swam more than a few hours in a year -all stop & go & drills in the pool..so survival was the name of the game- just Nemo ing thru. Was really happy to get on land. But had I been at all prepared this would have been a really nice swim.
Transition 1
  • 02m 34s
Comments:

slow slow slow
What would you do differently?:

practice..especially the whole wetsuit off thing..plus even tho I was "taking it easy" I could easily have been a wee bit faster...
Bike
  • 33m 35s
  • 10 miles
  • 17.87 mile/hr
Comments:

Had fun on the bike- werent a lot of places to really get rolling, but fun & scenic decent road conditions for the most part. I didn't push hard- which cost me, but I really wasn't sure where I was as far as being able to run after, so played it safe.
What would you do differently?:

Push harder
Transition 2
  • 01m 14s
Comments:

Again, just too slow
Run
  • 26m 9s
  • 3.1 miles
  • 08m 26s  min/mile
Comments:

Passed a woman about half mile out who said as I went by..you're 1st...I'm like WHAT?? The top 3 of us in out age group were each like 5-8 seconds apart..(she was wrong I was 2nd)
What would you do differently?:

Again, I could have pushed a little more, tho the last 100 yds I was feeling like I could throw up ..but fortunately, did not, and actually felt surprisingly good very quickly.
Post race
Warm down:

oranges-water-wlaking-chatting

What limited your ability to perform faster:

Base not great..and still tentative with injury issues..

Event comments:

hardware was nice surprise- lots of nice people-weather conditions great-well run & organized- especially for a 1st time race.very pretty venue.excellent company.
