Total Time = 53m 20s
Overall Rank = 778/1624
Age Group = 41-50
Age Group Rank = 106/204
Pre-race routine:

Work up before the alarm (as usual). had a couple bites of oatmeal before heading down to race site. arrived early. Check in was very straightforward - with cotton T-shirt and small goodie bag. walked 3 blocks back to car to drop shirt and bag. Met up with teammates and did some limited stretching
Event warmup:

some high knees, hamstring stretches and jogging in place. should have done some more static and dynamic streches.
Run
  • 53m 20s
  • 6.21 miles
  • 08m 35s  min/mile
Comments:

they divided the run into two groups - those who expected to run less than 50 minutes (8 min mile) and those who expected to run slower than that. As usual, runners were not strictly honest about which group to place themselves in.

Was able to keep the pacing I wanted - passing a number of the runners who placed themselves ahead of where they would otherwise have been. caught up with an old friend (did not even know she was running the race) just after mile 2, and ran with her for the bulk of the rest of the race. Enjoyed catching up with her on our lives. Toward the end of the race, HR was climbing and it was becoming more difficult to speak. Pushed as hard as I could through the finish, maxing out my HR at 189, which I think is my highest HR ever.
What would you do differently?:

more stretching and dynamic warm-up before race.

Also, i would repeal the law of gravity. I mean, people think it is a good idea and an appropriate law, but it is definitely slowing me down.
Post race
Warm down:

walked back to car - because kids were waiting and wife was waiting to go to graduation of her mentee.

What limited your ability to perform faster:

gravity

Yeah, Newton is really overweighted   Nice run - with a 189 HR it appears you left it all out there!
