Pre-race routine:

Set up transition, exited by 6:30, ate a gel and a larabar (banana bread!) Spent time with my parents (thanks mom and dad!) and lauren and then headed down the water.

I did get to see triathlon hottie sam mcglone exit T1.
Event warmup:

Went in the water to acclimate and stretch my shoulders. Nothing else really.
Swim
  • 42m 37s
  • 1931 meters
  • 02m 13s / 100 meters
Comments:

There is no doubt in my mind that the buoys were more than 1.2m by the time I had to swim. I swam great, swim a lot, and know my pace. There is a ZERO chance that I swam 2:13's.
What would you do differently?:

Practice sighting. Otherwise was REALLY happy with how I handled the siwm
Transition 1
  • 02m 11s
Comments:

Good T1. Time is long as tranistion was big.
What would you do differently?:

Nothing.
Bike
  • 2h 47m 19s
  • 56 miles
  • 20.08 mile/hr
Comments:

I really shocked myself here. Great bike. Don't think I've ever done that in training, and I don't think it totally killed my run either. My drinking was the REAL problem. And only ONE gel. Yuck. Im an idiot.
What would you do differently?:

EAT MORE DRINK MORE
Transition 2
  • 03m 5s
Comments:

Jackass next to me in T had his bike racked in my spot. I just moved him.
What would you do differently?:

Nothing. Good T. Slower than other as I didn't know where run exit was (well, i thought I did, but I was wrong)
Run
  • 2h 32m 58s
  • 13.1 miles
  • 11m 41s  min/mile
Comments:

WOW. I mean... seriously? I WAS DYING. I cramped almost instantly on the run due to AGGRESSIVE HEAT and lack of fluid/gels.

It was 96 actual temp and 104-106 real feel for the entire run. People were going to the side of the road everywhere. It looked liek a death march. NEver seen anthing like it.

My run was DEATH. All I needed was a 2:24 13.1 to break 6 and I coudln't do it. That said, it was TOTALLY fluid and HEAT. Not my run training.

Oddly, my knee was no problem. Though my IT hurts this AM, but not aggressively.
What would you do differently?:

Drink more, learn to run in the desert.
Post race
Warm down:

Ice knees, gatoradre and water

What limited your ability to perform faster:

HEAT

Nice work out there!  Eating/drinking on the bike were key yesterday since the run was scorching.
