Swim
Comments: Would have been 4 out of 24 in M35-39 With the water so warm, only 2/3 or so chose a wetsuit. I was shortly debating it but decided to go with it, that was the right choice! From now on: whenever it it wetsuit legal, wear one! Started a little too fast, was fading on the last quarter Was swimming side by side with Mike for a long time, but mostly I was swimming alone Navigation was not an issue this time with no sun out. Still managed to swim a little zig-zag, but not too bad What would you do differently?: I managed to shed around 90 sec from the last two years here, so I am happy Should have just started a bit slower to hold pace better Transition 1
Comments: Lost a few seconds here, I thought I came to the right spot, had seen a blue P2, plus the number was 352 (mine was actually 252, amazing what lack of blood in the brain can cause). Started to panic a little, thought that someone must have thrown my stuff away?? Finally realized the 3 vs 2, and then everything was good, had a gel What would you do differently?: It's a no-brainer, but you really cannot visualize the T zone enough pre-race... Bike
Comments: Would have been 8 out of 24 in M35-39 That was a strange ride. Mostly stayed with Mike and we were passing back and forth several times While the pace was good, my legs felt not fully strong, especially on the hills towards the end. I should have been able to push harder on such a short course? Also, the HR stayed high for quite a while after T What would you do differently?: Not sure really. It was certainly not a bad bike performance (did approx 5 min better than the last two years), but I am also not realy happy Transition 2
Comments: Good transition this time;-) Had Clif ShotBloks that I just grabbed and then ate on the run, great thing, will do that from now on! Run
Comments: Would have been 19 out of 24 in M35-39 All 18 ahead of me gained between 4 and 10 minutes here!!! With 4 min better on the run I would have been 7 out of 24 No big surprise, just underlines in hard numbers that I am loosing it on the run! "Flying" on the first mile, I thought that I had a chance to break 1:40, but had to scrap that after the two monster hills... I decided to walk the second hill as everyone ahead of me;-( Was able to push nicely Still a very good run for me, for sure the fastest trail pace ever. I managed to take around 2 min from running time compared to last two years What would you do differently?: Well, the weight.... Post race
Event comments: My key goal coming into the race was to break 1:45 (after 1:50 in the last two years), plus I was hoping to at least place if not win the Clyde division -->> MISSIONS ACCOMPLISHED ;-) Was a great race for me overall Would have been 14 out of 24 in M35-39, very dense top group in terms of performance, proves the point of Clydesdales especially on the trail run pretty well in "hard numbers" my opinion Last updated: 2010-03-25 12:00 AM

The usual breakfast
Left around 6am, in addition to setting up, I also had to get Karl to the volunteer pre-meeting at 7.30
Setup was uneventful, except for crowded space yet again, made worse by my neighbor putting his bike in the wrong way
WHY CAN THEY NOT ADD 10 or 20% more racks, should not make that much of a cost difference??
I was in 4th wave, did not start until 8:23am
My family was there also, that was great to show them around and watch the first swimmers come out
Stretched a little on land, otherwise mostly talking to Dave and Paul, they were nervous though...
