Revolution 3
75F / 24C
Overcast
Total Time = 2h 39m 49s
Overall Rank = 40/243
Age Group = Clydesdale
Age Group Rank = 1/22
Pre-race routine:

Woke at 5am and had half a bagel, meal replacement drink and then sipped a bottle of Ultragen waiting for the start
Event warmup:

Spent 5-10 mins in the water and stretched tight hamstrings
Swim
  • 28m 34s
  • 1728 yards
  • 01m 39s / 100 yards
Comments:

Didn't feel like I could get a rhythm for some reason. Navigation not bad but think I screwed up the last leg. Just didn't feel like I had any power and form went to hell for some reason.
What would you do differently?:

Put it down to being the first tri of the year!
Transition 1
  • 01m 54s
Comments:

T1 was was good with the exception of the 10-15 seconds I lost by not being able to find my bike in the rack. First time this has happened to me and it makes you feel like an idiot.
What would you do differently?:

Pay even more attention to where my bike is in transition
Bike
  • 1h 16m 32s
  • 25.8 miles
  • 20.23 mile/hr
Comments:

I had ridden the course four times a couple of weeks earlier so knew what to expect with the course. I think my training camp at Placid the weekend before really impacted my ride as I was 1-2 mins slower than the slowest time I expected. Hills felt hard and heart rate was high at start of ride.
What would you do differently?:

This was just a C race so although it would have been nice to do a mini taper to improve bike strength it wasn't an option. My team mates all experienced similar feelings about their performances so it is good to know I'm not alone
Transition 2
  • 01m 13s
Comments:

Felt like a very clean transition
What would you do differently?:

Nothing
Run
  • 51m 36s
  • 6.2 miles
  • 08m 19s  min/mile
Comments:

It was a humid morning and this was made worse by the sun starting to break through. Although slow (albeit it wasn't a fast run course) I was fairly happy with the run given conditions and my state of fatigue. I got passed by 9 guys and 2 girls on the run, although did manage to pass a guy in the chute - he was suffering though.

Had this been a half I would have needed to focus more on getting more fluid at the aid stations as was pretty dehydrated at the end.
What would you do differently?:

Not much.
Post race
Warm down:

Massage and hung out with the big gang of TriLifers

What limited your ability to perform faster:

General fatigue from the training camp the previous weekend

Event comments:

This was my first Rev3 race and I was extremely impressed with the organisation. Would do another race with this crowd in a heartbeat.
