HSBC Triathlon Series
21C / 70F
Total Time = 1h 48m 48s
Overall Rank = 94/231
Age Group = M35-39
Age Group Rank = 19/23
Pre-race routine:

Rainy morninig so I let the wife and kids sleep in and I took off on my own. A Tim Horton's breakfast.
I got to the race much earlier than usual so I secured a great bike rack spot and had time to relax, use the facilities, put on wetsuit and swim about 100m
Event warmup:

Swam about 100m... had a nice chat with a lady while treading water... just chilled
  • 18m 4s
  • 750 meters
  • 02m 25s / 100 meters

Water was a bit murky but pleasant. The swim was straight forward. I had some form problems when I colided with a few people but overall I just swam a decent race.
The run to T1 is very long (200m?) - I got out of the water at 15:30 and it took me 1.5min to get to T1...
What would you do differently?:

Draft a better swimmer
Transition 1
  • 02m 25s

Very slow T1... I forgot my regualar towel and my feet were caked in mud. Took way too long to put shoes on.
  • 50m 13s
  • 27 kms
  • 32.26 km/hr

I rode a good race in aero position most of the time.. My bike computer said I rode 27.9km - its usually VERY accurate. I think MultiSport Canada undermeasured the course.

What would you do differently?:

Transition 2
  • 01m 20s
  • 37m 11s
  • 6.5 kms
  • 05m 43s  min/km

I really suffered the first 2km but fought through it and was able to maintain a sub 6km/min pace until the 4km mark - then the trail get paved / gravel and my legs recovered enough that I was able to pick up the pace.
What would you do differently?:

train running BRICs more
Post race
Event comments:

There was some confusiuon on the bike course due to the "Ride for Cancer" riding part of the same route.
